Those of you with ferrets
Tell me what they're all about. I'm being offered a 6 month~1 year old ferret this very minute; supposedly very friendly, litter trained, people-oriented. Comes with a cage, food and dishes.
I mean I know they're cute balls of pure bliss but I want to know the cold hard facts, tips, whatever you've got for me.
[*] What do I feed it?
[*] How is the smell and how might I deal with that?
[*] Are there any common health problems I should look out for?
[*] Anything else?
High-maintenance isn't an issue, I have a lot of free time and I've had many pets in the past.

I wouldn't wanna get one due to their smell. Also just cause you have time now doesn't mean it'll be like that forever. Take into account how long the ferret will live and make sure you'll be able to provide for it for its entire life span.
Ferrets look cute but I've heard too much about their scent from ferret-owners.
I have a bearded dragon now and it's one of the best pets xD Also got fishes and hopefully a Leopard Gecko sometime this year or next.
If you like fluffy animals get a rabbit or bunny, I think those are much better to deal with

my friend has one it does smell pretty bad even after they're de-scented I guess you just grow used to the smell idk it actually didn't smell much worse than a dog just like a dog on a bad day I guess if you're ready to live with that then there should be not many problems
the smell is bad
my sister had two de-scented ferrets and they still had this musky smell like a milder version of cat pee. that said they're energetic, cute, and fun but can also sleep a ton. ideally they have a multi-level cage so they can move around and have things to do, my sis also had a hammock for them to sleep in lol. food can be a good cat food or specifically ferret food, basically just a pellet feed made with meat. dunno much about the health issues they face tho.
I wish I had a ferret or cat.
