I always recommend the Bakemonogatari series to anyone looking for new animu to watch. Awesome series with amazing visuals, really vibrant and colorful. Really reminds of an anime version of a Wes Anderson film. Plus there are a lot of seasons and some movies so It'll last you some time.

finally someone who's seen how horribly aku no hana was animated

not a huge fan of those genre but heres what i got
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (watch the movies they recap the series but with better graphics and eventually continue where it left off, the romance is more psychological and scary than its cute tho)
Ano hana the flower that we saw that day (haven't watched but heard it was sad)

Aku no Hana (Romance is creepy but at times fun the animation is pretty bad so i'd suggest reading the manga)
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shi-tai! Ren ( GG basil, this one has to be most like the ones you described)
Golden time (More of a dramatic romance)
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Again more drama o.o)
Oreshura (Harem but the mc actually chooses a girl)
Zero no Tsukaima
