Alishan Forest Train quest is the worst in the game

I come back after a few months and I'm greeted with this sick and demented quest.

Once I exit the map with the Dark Master, I died instantly without even getting a chance to move. The times when I do get lucky and avoid the bombs, resulted in eventual deaths, none more tragic and messed up than making it to the end portal (and skilling NPC chat to quickly complete the story) only to get bombed and have to restart it again.

What pathetic soul is responsible for this joke of quest?

@rixworkwix: Yup. if you have high def & avoidability, you probably won't understand why everyone is so frustrated.
I did the quest on my funded Bishop, and on my unfunded Evan. I understood immidiatly what happened. On my evan the quest seemed impossible. Literaly impossible to beat, and the beetles are hard to kill. But it reminded me a bit of Von Leon (back when he was new). Kill the mobs or the battle is lost. On my bishop I just tanked all of her hits, and when she charged her 1hko whole-screen, I just wiped clean the map of all mobs, I just didn't pay attention. They all got 1HKOed. 6 hits, and the boss was over.

But when I tried to battle it on my Evan, it was different. Unless I glided on time to dodge the sliding beetles, I died instantly. And when she used the roots, I lost like A TON of HP consecutively. And when she charged her attack, I attack the beetles nonstop. They had SO MUCH HP, I couln't even kill ONE on time, and I ended up dying.

The train sequense wasn't that bad on any of the characters. The explosions are easy to enticipate. I fail like one, out of every 5 runs. No reason to cry over it.

@natty2: ah that makes sense. everyone keeps saying this boss is so difficult but she takes me like 1min or less. thought she adjusted to people level

Bishy here. I don't use HMS. The beetles just don't kill me. Seems to me like the funded got it easy. I mean, I can kill the beetles pretty easily, and 6-shot the boss. I just tank everything, most of the attacks miss apperantly.

Here's a tip - avoid Alishan. It appears to be worth going through... appearances can be deceiving. Fact is, this area is cheap as heck and needs major nerfs.

Not only is the train section broken (even if you hold left as you go through the portal, the explosion can still kill you sometimes... especially if you have ANY lag), but the boss afterwards is probably the cheapest thing they've added to the game.

She has two attacks that she does at various HP intervals that cause INSTANT DEATH. The first one she does is teleport to one side of the room and summon small waves of beetles that rush across the room and disappear. The way you're SUPPOSED to avoid it is to jump up one of the wind gusts to the left or right side of the stage (whatever's opposite to her) and land on a platform above, but the mechanic for doing this is so unreliable, you'll likely miss the platform, fall, and keep desperately trying to repeat the process, only to land on a beetle and die. In order to make sure you rely on this method, this fight locks almost any skill you have that lets you jump vertically in order to reach the platform. I'm pretty sure even Flash Jump is locked in order to make you jump normally as another attempt to dodge the beetles. Zero somehow got lucky, because their double-tap teleport ability still works, meaning you can use Zero to avoid the attack properly.

The other insta-kill attack is only done at 1/2 health, but it is complete BS, no matter what class you are (unless Party Shield or Smokescreen works, or you get SUPER lucky with Shade... assuming that works). She will summon beetles (that don't one-shot you and can be killed), but then begins to charge a ball of energy. Once she's done charging, she releases an explosion of energy, that covers the entire map and kills you intantly. Yes, that's right... she has a screen-wipe insta-kill. There are two ways currently known that can defend against this. You either manage to get onto one of the platforms at the top and time falling onto the ground to coincide with her attack, dodging it by using fall damage. The other method (which appears to be what they intended you to do) is to kill beetles. Kill more than 2 and the energy burst will not have the ability to instantly kill you... only do 90% of your max health. So, you need to attack full-out on the beetles (hoping you can kill 2 or more... which is surprisingly hard as they have a lot of health), but also have 90% or more HP to survive the explosion. Otherwise, you're dead. No "lives remaining", no run back into the fight from a "ready room" to complete the fight. You are dead, you lose some experience and you have to fight her all over again...

...because that's fair.

Oh, and here's the kicker... because you'll love this. If you decide that you're not in the mood to keep getting killed by the boss and want to go PQ or something, well guess what? If you leave the map just before the boss room before you've beaten the boss, you cannot get back to that area... UNTIL YOU DO THE TRAIN SEQUENCE AGAIN. Also, don't forget that this area scales to your level and, even if you are level 250, instant death is still instant death.

So yeah... have fun!

Just keep moving quickly and pray the bombs don't appear on you. It took me about four attempts and thankfully once you finish that part, it doesn't repeat.

It's not that bad but it does have it's glitches , I died as soon as I went through the portal which leads to the escape on the train. I also died twice at the boss with those exploding leaves or whatever they are, case in point; bring safety gems.

I don't even know. As soon as I logged in and saw the old light bulb over my head I was instantly like, "F this ish..."
Then when I saw on basil how impossible the boss was, I just thought, "I don't f with this..."
