I work at the front end of a grocery store, ask me anything

I'm a courtesy clerk at King Soopers (just got re-hired for the 3rd time).

Ask me anything!

is it true women go through extensive length to hide the fact that they're buying sanitary pads or personal lube? what's your funniest story?

@upcomingnerd I'm not too bad at the advice part sometimes. I have watched lots of people get into relationships, observed what they did, etc. Plus I'm aware of lots of the things I do wrong.

@quasar twelve

@mysticalimage if you're a boring loner, and you like getting on your knees a lot, and you want an even less competent manager than the front end.

@zoglinemusic I don't know what you want me to say. Also, I am good at checking and bagging groceries.

@zoglinemusic if I knew the answer don't you think I'd do something about it? I just have really bad luck. For no reason, besides maybe God likes screwing with me.

@2005chuy can't work weekdays because can't commute every day. Also, warehouse job I had was only during summers. Also, I only worked THERE because my dad worked there (he was a marketing guy), but the company started falling apart so he got laid off. Also, the grocery store is much easier, and I like the coworkers I have there a lot, and honestly the pay is enough for me right now. And it's gonna go up in January.

Why don't you go back to the warehouse job, it's better money. A dude I used to work with was taking 16 credits and working 50 hour weeks.

@beefly all the time. Like, that's the most entertaining thing to do there. There are quite a few cute/hot girls that come in, but not as much during the day on weekdays, which is when the majority of my shifts take place. It's all old, boring ladies.

@alwaysthere ah yes. I've heard it's better pay but it's boring as hell. I just like interacting with people more. They've offered me a position in produce multiple times, for like $1 more per hour...but yeah not worth being even more bored all the time.

@sezbeth sometimes. I imagine it's worse at the service desk. 90% of transactions are neutral, about 5% are fun/make me happy, about 5% are annoying/make me mad/annoyed.

Is customer service every bit as infuriating as I remember?

How often do you check out items for a hot girl (or hot boy if you're into that)?

@seekingcuteguys: wish you were a girl asking this, but anyway...

1) talk to him whenever you feel like it, if you never feel like it then dump him

2) people have time to talk to the people they love. Most people who work don't have to worry about work when they come home, she he should have time after that. I've been writing a final essay every freaking day this week and I still have time to spend with people at uni before winter break.

3) sounds like you are Skyping enough as it is

@upcomingnerd ah, yes, I dunno why I misread that. Dazed and confused during finals week I guess. Anyway, I don't know how much oranges cost, I just scan them or type in the number.
I think I just read it as "how much oranges are there". Get off my ass, asshole.

@nolen yes, plenty of that. Probably only 15% of the products in the store are bought on a daily basis. At my store we have a few specialized things too, and the foreign food aisle, but yes there are many things that I've never seen come through the register.

Are there certain items that exist but nobody really buys them

@greatbolshy: lol Or know the difference between quantity and price? That seems like an important one to me, giving where he works.

@upcomingnerd: people that don't ask questions about oranges during interviews, i guess.

@fradddd: How much are oranges there...as in price. Oh 100 on the shelf. Who hires you?

@seekingcuteguys she's across the country in college. We've texted a few times throughout the semester, but it was all super basic like about school and such. I'm trying to forget about her honestly.

@pentakiruuu at any given time probably about a hundred on the "shelf". Not sure how many in the back. I work the front end not produce...

@ecarina bad things happen to everyone, which includes good people.

@stoker I'm not really sure, but I'm also not sure if the meaning matters.

@beefly here's a good question. So, I worked from September 2013 to May 2015. That was junior year and senior year of high school. I quit in May because my dad's company was hiring: for the warehouse for the summer and the pay was way better, and after the summer I was going to college so I didn't think I'd come back to King Soopers.

During my first semester in college, I drained my money extremely fast. I got down to about $8 in my bank account at some point, and I believe I'd started out with over $2,000. Part of that was the cost of school stuff though, but some of it was reckless spending, because I had a job for a while before that I was used to being able to spend a certain amount of money.

So, I applied to King Soopers cause I wanted to work full time during winter break, then hiring lady said they don't hire seasonally. So I decided, well, I come down to my home town every weekend anyway, so I could work when I'm down there. So I applied for winter break and weekends.
It took them a while to actually let me start working, so it was the end of January when I started again.

It was a pretty damn glorious return. None of my old coworker friends knew I was coming back, so they were all so surprised and happy when they just saw me working outta nowhere! And I was working with my crush again...
So yeah, I'd argue round 2 was even better than round 1.

Then, in the last week of July, I got a call from my uni. They said I was being offered a Resident Assistant position (I was an alternate), and I would have to start training on August 7. So, since I hadn't technically been back at King Soopers for a year yet, I couldn't take a leave of absence, so I had to just quit. I knew that RAs couldn't have a job if it was their first semester being an RA.

Then, I learned that RA's aren't even supposed to have a job outside of work study at all, no matter what. You are only allowed 5 hours at a work study, which is a measly ~$40 a week. What a load of crap.
But, some of the returning RAs said a lot of them just got jobs anyway, and there's no way for Residence Life to find out since they don't have that information. You just gotta keep it secret.

Plus, even if Residence Life caught me and fired me, I could just commute, and make even more money working every night, which is what I'm going to do next year. They have already lost FIVE Reslife people anyway this semester, and they have only replaced one of those.

So yeah, I start training stuff on Monday.

tldr: Quit for college, came back for money, quit for being an RA, came back for money.
