Game Menu Press Start

Seriously what's the point of putting that text at the bottom or middle saying "PUSH TO START" or "PRESS START"?
Everyone is gonna press A anyways, amirite?

I think the oldest system I had was a SNES. I was only 5 so I don't remember anything.
Metal Gear makes you press start. There should be a game when you press something other than start, a messages tells you that button you pressed doesn't work.
Also no "I press X (playstation) to start" choice in the poll? >.<
