What car should I buy?

Hello, long time :o

So, I started working as an intern since 2 months and now I'm officially working full time. My sister used to drive me to work since her job is close and well, she got moved to another location. My parents don't want me to take public transportation because, you know, here in Latin America you can't leave the bus without being robbed and the taxis are too expensive. So, now it's time for me to get a car.

Which one should I get? I can't decide between the Mazda 3 2015 and the Honda Civic 2015

PD: I just noticed I messed up the title. Welp, puck.

Just get a cheap beater for the time being. You don't need anything more than a car that'll take you from point A to point B. Nobody's going to care what car you have, so long as you HAVE a car. Get something simple, local and cheap. Remember that foreign cars have foreign parts, so they're harder (and therefore more expensive) to get parts and repair when something goes wrong.

For example, I live a few towns away from a GM factory. Anything made by GM is going to be a much easier fix than getting, say a Toyota. So, I'd look for a car in my price range that GM makes... preferably on the lower end of my price range, as many of the parts for the cheaper cars are interchangable and super-cheap to fix.

A friend of mine was getting a new car from her uncle (who just to happened to have a used car dealership). In the end, she had the option of buying two cars by the same company (I believe Pontiac - that company has disolved, but parts are still widely available). The two models were valued with one car being $1,000 more than the other. The difference between the two cars? One had a "sportier" looking front end... which could easily be taken off and swapped over with the other one. In every other way, the cars were identical. It's just that the "sportier" looking car was more popular with teenagers, so dealerships could charge extra.

So, instead of thinking about what's popular, think about what you need out of a car... then do some research.

I it's your 1st car I'd say buying used is a better option lol; also wouldn't trust a Mazda they're prone to rust even if you take excellent care of the car and in general compared to a Honda...well there is no comparison a Honda will out value a Mazda 100x lol

What trim level are you looking at? Personally I take Civic over Mazada3. Don't know about Latin America but Honda generally depreciates slower than other brands.

Besides, you should test drive both cars.

Maybe try tapping into the Speed Force and wait for the Tesla 3.

@hellksing plus what kind of dealership doesn't have financing of cars that are a couple of years old with <30k miles.

Why a 2015? I know you said it can't be used but wouldn't that mean it needs to be a 2016? o.o

Aside from that I have to recommend the Hyundai Sonata since that's what I have, I love it, and compared to the choices you gave it's very similar. But out of the two I would say Civic cause the Mazda just looks weird to me...

Buy used, save a ton.
Many cars depreciate really and they're horrible investments for the most part.

Get a Civic though.
