Pro in Ms equals crappy life in reality?
Back when I played MS, it ruined my life outside the game the better I got at it and the more I spent playing it. I slowly got out of shape, my college grades deteriorated as well as my job becoming harder with MS as a distraction; I had no friends outside of the game (thank god for the in-game friends though because they were truly the silver lining in this whole debacle, and I'm still great friends with them.). But other than friendship with people who I'll never meet in person, this game ruined my life. What about you guys?

I only stated playing MS because of friends outside of the game.
It was good times for me.
I used to be one of the highest levels in my server and strongest DKs. I'm also a medical school student now. I would say that it's really important to learn time management skills.
uhhhh well self discipline and grades deteriorated for sure but helped me with other stuff liek i got to 'train' social skills in this game and took my time to apply much of it to irl socialisations as a way to adjust back since i messed up badly in the pasts after moving to another place
o.o
so yea both major good and bad stuff maple gave me, sry gonna have to sit on the fence cant give u a one sided answer.
I'm not absolving myself from blame. I'm just saying that the game serves as a big distraction from accomplishing things a lot more for some than for others. Many people were/are addicted to this game, and the game's company doesn't care one bit about them. Even casinos have a phone number people can call if a person or a family member is addicted to gambling. What does a game like maplestory have to counter this? Nothing.
Only if you're very obsessed and/or you spend too much time on it. Playing MS occasionally for pleasure won't affect your life.
It's your own fault for being addicted and neglecting your school work and real life relationships. It's all about priorities and time management.
@IImaplers: Yeah but I personally don't think you can blame bad things on a game. It isn't the game that made you have bad health, insomnia, etc. It was you who chose to do whatever you did that led to those. I understand how you/others see it though. This is just how I see it, that's it.
If it wasn't maple, it would have been something else. Before I played maplestory I played runescape. Before runescape it was toontown. The problem isn't the games, it's your choices. (the same with one's opinions on other people too but we'll save that for another thread)
Well I'll admit I was addicted to MS. But I only played 1-2 days a week for the most part. It ruined my weekends especially, because I insisted on staying home and 'mastering' punching pixelated mushrooms and crap.
@infinteZero: I guess people can handle this "balance" but I personally associate this game with negative things in general. Addiction, a waste of time which can be better spent on more important things, like family and friends, a waste of money, a generally selfish player-base but for a few exceptions, and pointless goals.
@ZetraDedd: After I quit, my life immediately got better and better. Not disagreeing with you, but not agreeing either though. It's about choices. You can choose to associate yourself with negative things or positive things. I chose to stop associating with negative things like this game, and then my life got better.
Results of 7-ish years of playing MS (even though mostly 1-2 days per week): bad health, insomnia and sleeplessness, no social life, random small outbursts at people who tried to help me, lost thousands of bucks for pointless reasons, among other negative things.
After quitting: Started exercising and playing sports again, joined the gym and got in good shape, got a new gf, started eating much better, insomnia is still there but much better than it used to be, more sociable. ...and it has only been about 7 months since I've quit.
It's like a 180 degree turn in a good direction.
Another thing to note is that my good friend constantly tells me re-join maple (although I shall never return), partly because it is a good place to virtually "hang out" in, but also partly because he is still very addicted to the game. And now he seems to be having some health problems, and I would wager that MS is a significant factor in causing those health problems.
I'm afraid for my friend. I constantly tell him to quit but he doesn't listen.

No... Don't blame your problems on the game lol, the problem lies within
No, I'm doing good. I haven't played MS in awhile tho
@Aznseal too
It doesn't equal a crappy life. If you let it get to you, then yea it can be.
I graduated high school, going to college in fall, plus I have a job, and I play ms from time to time.
It had no impact on my life at all, besides giving me something to do when I'm bored.
If you learn how to balance things, MS will have little impact on your day to day life. Sadly we dont have enough time to go out and party hard, learn like a Nobel prize winner, get girls like Don Quijote AND play MS till we end up like Tiger. So, the best idea is to plan ahead and balance your activities based on your needs for a day, week, month
I agree 100%. You probably won't find support on this site since a lot of basilers are ms addicts; its like telling insert x drug here (since basil does not let you talk about certain inappropriate substances so I won't mention anything in particular) fiends how drug x ruined your life and trying to get their support
Anyone that spends hours on a daily basis or hundreds to thousands of dollars on MS may or may not be aware of the fact that the game is financially ruining their life and absorbing gaps of time that could have been used on something more constructive..
Now wait just one minute, sir! >.<
Just because I wear a pink bean suit to school/work does not mean my life is ruined!
@IImaplers:
sounds like you lost balance their...
i could play anygame for months and keep balance just got to remember to multitask
or know how to rage quit for a nice hour a day or so to get outside lol
Personally, I would be a fool to say ms didn't negatively impact my life.
I don't know man... it's the complete opposite for me. I have made enough money off this game to not worry about my future university tuition fees... or any fees at that. Plus, Maplestory has been proven to be pretty generous in terms of friends and fun the last 6 years I've played. @_@
I played it since the start of high school.

I graduated college.
I moved abroad and enrolled in university.
I'm wealthy, I'm semi-healthy, I'm happy and I got good friends. I can't say the game was all that bad for me. Just high school was horrid for me because I got bullied like crazy. But I don't think that really had anything to do with me playing Maplestory.
Find the bullies and teach them a lesson.

12* G.I.R.L.friends for me

'Can I dark impale you?'
this game has got me laid numerous times so no.
If you get addicted to anything, it can have negative impacts on your life in general. Personally, maple has had nothing to do with how my life is.
MS has no impact on my life whatsoever.
