@Etokapa: Well ammyy doesn't have the limitations teamviewer has, ammyy is more user-friendly and your password stays the same.

It would have been ironic if you had a mac os or linux

I would have believed it if the alert was from me web browsing (but even then I would be suspicious because it's happened before). If some dude called me up while I was online, I would be concerned that someone's watching me.
@BobR I'm well aware of the ammyy scam, i also know exactly what ammyy is (i use it myself) It's just annoying how narrow-minded the TS is being right now
Oh.. well, yeah.

It's just that it's the kind of thing that's likely to work on people who are already scared of "keyloggers" stealing their Maple accounts.
God help us if these scammers ever hit on that as a tactic.. "Hello, this is Bill Gates, I've personally determined there's a KEYLOGGER on your computer and you're gonna get hacked unless you let me "help you" carefully remove it. Trust me."
What do you mean they take over? take over what?
That part isn't clear in the reports of the scam.
Some seem to indicate they scare the victim into giving them credit card info for their services in "helping you eliminate all the viruses on your computer",
some seem to indicate they surf your files for personal info.

They hit up thousands of people and a lot of them have so little computer experience they'll just sit and watch as someone from India opens all their e-mails "looking for viruses" and getting all their info. That's the whole point of scamming (and scaring) computer illiterate people. They say they're from Microsoft so they're obviously trustworthy, and they look like they know what they're doing (clicking things, opening windows, all that computer techy stuff). They must be legit.

This page from the legit ammyy site discusses the malicious use of their software: http://www.ammyy.com/en/admin_mu.html

@SolidJet the news said they take over ... -sigh- all to that side
What do you mean they take over? take over what? You can end the connection of ammyy whenever you want, and the only way to connect to your computer with ammyy is give them your coded password and then say yes when they want to connect to you.

We actually had the exact same folks call our home day before yesterday. They seem to have an Indian accent, and, in broken English, tried to convince us my family that "the computer" as they put it in our house (there are 4 -_-) wasn't using a valid Windows key and was infected with a virus. I believe it showed up on one of our cells as a . But yes, it's definitely a scam, and they do pretend they're from Microsoft. They seem to be very active recently.

Wow so they call you and then if you say sorry they hack your computer and call again. I think a possible solution would be turn off your wifi and wait a hour or 2 lmao. Shoot i never buy anti virus stuff anyways when there's free ones you can get.

Ammyy is a completely legit program (its basically like teamviewer, but IMO its better) what ammyy does is that it connects you to another computer through the internet (and basically lets you control the computer) it has many education purposes and can be used to help, but at the same time it can be used as a weapon.

What these guys do is they make you download ammyy, and make you tell them your ammyy password (its different for everyone) and then control your computer and do whatever, however with the latest update to ammyy it allows you to end the connection whenever you want. and even control your mouse, even if they're controlling it.

I'm agreeing with you.

The people who called you are scammers. The site they told you to go to is legit.
They wanted to use the legit program to take over your PC.

It's good that you're warning people to be aware of this scam, and not to fall for it.
Thank you for thinking about everyone else that might be scammed by these slimeballs. Seriously.
@Myawsomeacc thats what im doing now, to tell you guys to not trust them and do not go to that site.. like i said on my thread, i didnt go to their site because i saw warnings
OK, I just followed through on some of the reports on Google about this scam.

The URL you posted is NOT a keylogger or scam site... it's a legit Remote Access program used by LEGIT tech people to help with computer problems.

The SCAM is the people calling up and saying they're from Microsoft. They tell you to go to that site and download the remote access software so THEY can then take control of your computer and do evil things with it. (The reports weren't all that specific about what they wanted with your computer, but it likely involves poking though your files looking for credit card numbers, passwords and god knows what else.)

So yeah the link is OK... it's just the scammers on the phone that you need to be aware of and hang up if anyone calls like that making claims about being from Microsoft.

OT: Why would you even consider trusting a site that the name looks like someone smashed their fist on a keyboard.
@BobR thats not a url though.... and if i didnt tell you guys, you will be screwed
That's exactly what he meant though. SOMEONE is going to go to the website out of curiosity, URL/Hyperlink or not.
You could've made the thread warning about phone scams, and to tell everyone to be on their guard.

Posting warnings about scam sites is a good thing to do, but DON'T post their URLs.
Someone will ALWAYS go there out of curiosity and end up getting scammed or hacked or whatever.
Just warn about not believing any phone calls you get from places saying they "detected viruses on your computer" without giving their URL.
