Well I can't really say for sure either since I vaguely remember 3 of my very first characters were all male.....
I forgot the email of one of my account before and in live chat the gm ask for my name

Maplestory accounts were indeed gender locked for a good while, but I don't remember that having to do with the gender that you put in your account details. I thought it was based on the gender of the first character you made.

And saves you the hassle from trying to think of a COOL username. You can just login with your email address now and they will randomly generate an ID for you.

Because your account is not gender locked anymore, well, nor has it ever been gender locked has it?
And saves you the hassle from trying to think of a COOL username. You can just login with your email address now and they will randomly generate an ID for you.
You don't need to remember the ID though. If you want to find out what is your ID, simply go in game and drag your mouse over your Level at the bottom left panel.
