Can I really stop being scared?

So, yeah not gonna' lie but I'm quite the little girl when it comes to some things such as jump scares and the supernatural. What happens is I end up seeing them on movies/videos and such, of course I'll be scared while watching but it gets much worse when at night as I get extremely paranoid. It's been like this since I first saw Samara from The Ring on Scary Movie 3 (pathetic I know LOL) and yeah, I just can't deal with that stuff.

Is anyone else like this? How do you even get past things like this? I know someone is going to suggest facing my fears but I've still been seeing a few scary movies with friends that have left me really freaked out and it's no different every time.

hi
help pls

goodnight

@jeonae: I'm coming for you. You won't see me but I'll be there... waiting for my moment to strike and rip the flesh from your body..
I used to be like that when I was way younger. I seriously sat there thinking to myself "it's not real" over and over.
Eventually I stopped believing in the supernatural and now I can watch scary movies because I know it's all fake.[/quote

Just watched this TED talk last night. Chris Hadfield gives a powerful talk about overcoming fear (and so much more). I don't think anyone would regret watching this. I want to read his book.

Well, for starters you can stop watching horror films unless they are more realistic type: 28 weeks/days later, resident evil, zombies, van helsing. I mean they're not exactly realistic, but it's mostly genetics and science unlike the supernatural figure.
Plus those have lots of jump scares as well. Im also weak against jump scares in general but I guess its kinda natural given how its out of no where.

I jumped once when I was watching Scary Movie 3 (I think, I know for sure it was Scary Movie _ ), during the part where the boy from the grudge pops up in the window while the two girls were driving. Looking back at it makes me laugh. As for ways to overcome the fear I try to predicted whats gonna happen next and most of the time I get it right.

Exact same thing as me. I think my nerves are extra sensitive to fear. I would jump whenever someone came in my room and just went "Ahhh" real loud. Even through repeated times i would still jump, with the mentality in my head that they're going to be back and do it again. (Sister did it 3x in 1 hour. I jumped from my seat all three times)
I'm scared at scary movies as well, covering my ears and closing my eyes.

the whole "they're just acting, this is fake" mentality is always in the back of my mind and took away the scare factor. i wish i could retrieve it.
