Whats the best free anti-virus?

This free McAfee on my laptop is pissing me off and I know there's something better out there, what should I get?

+1 for Avast, it has apparently worked, and it never bothers me.

~paranoid parrot: checks to see if I even have it installed~

"Kaspersky anti-virus" Trust me... Kaspersky is probably one of the best

Edit: Oh right, you should probably completely remove/uninstall McAfee from your PC, that poopie is annoying as norton security; it does nothing but spam you with notifications and offers to purchase their FULL PACKAGE product.
Don't listen to that guy above me ^ AVG is bad too

I use AVG free and Malwarebytes and that coupled with my common sense has kept me from getting any viruses so far.
^how can it be a waste of money if it's free?
He could mean a waste of time.

But I disagree. I think it's a good idea to get a free antivirus if somethings pops up suddenly.
It's good to have a backup.

Don't even get anti-virus if you don't go on like sketchy pr0n sites everynight or click on weird advertisements you should be fine. Your pc isn't going to get a virus that easily so far not a single one of my computers have gotten a virus the only reason why i needed to replace my comps is because i was running too many games on a underpowered i3 cpu so basically anti-virus is a waste of money.

i use Avira. it's pretty good, but the pop-ups when it updates can be a bit annoying
also use SuperAntiSpyware and malwarebytes for scanning malware every once in a while
