Sony

E3 and Vr for this year

It's probably going to be a big year for Virtual Reality. Sony will def talk about Morpheus, Oculus just finished talking about big plans and a partnership with Microsoft, a big lineup of good games this year as well. What is basil's thoughts on VR?

I'm super excited! I haven't tried it yet but it sounds really neat. People are tossing the words "gimmick" around and saying it's going to fail like motion controls but I don't think this is a gimmick. I see it as a way for people to play video games; maybe not the dominant way where everyone only plays VR, but more so that people will prefer the headset if they have the time (because I can see it being a pain in the butt if you have to keep taking the goggles on and off and having to take care of family, ect). Some games seem really cool in VR as well and will definitely open up new gameplay techniques and options.
Games that I would LOVE to try out in VR: Mirror's Edge, FFXIV maybe, Portal 2, Battlefield 4, and Ether One

As for non-gaming uses, VR looks like it can be really big for regular consumer uses as well like Facebook stated they'd like to do: Using VR to attend classes without having to actually GO to classes. Being able to watch movies/general entertainment without needing a TV/Monitor (if it's currently occupied or you don't want to disturb anyone). Or even attending all future E3 conferences without ever actually being at the conferences? And there's some more things I can think of but some of it isn't appropriate for this child-friendly website

I see it as a first step into revolutionizing gameplay, as well as average living assuming enough people make use of the non-gaming practicalities they want to offer.

The rift's specs are actually the least demanding of the three.

My friend got the vr stuff not too long ago and i tried it, its pretty awesome, you really have to get use to it cus it hurts your head and can make you pretty dizzy but over all worth it even if it is $350, tons and tons of free fun games for it too

Meh, I was on the hype train until I realized that it's expensive. The VR headset itself is $300~. Then you have to get the omni and what not, or you'll just be sitting down with a controller. The games I'll be playing in the future don't have VR support either. MapleStory2, tree of savior, etc.

I do think it's amazing technology.
