Question Is Global region-locked?

I'm a European player, however I made this account way back closer to game release when global was (I believe) the only non-Asian maplestory.

My brother similarly haven't played for 5-6 years and wishes to return and play with me, though on a new account and new server. But whenever he tries to access any worlds, the game crashes. (We tried on my computer as well, no crash when joining worlds on my account, crashes everytime on his.)

Is this due to a very retarded region-lock, or at least a known issue?

PS. Sorry if this've been asked before, I'm a tad busy so I haven't actually checked, but it just crossed my mind to ask before I forget about the whole thing again.

Edit: I would just go play EU Maplestory with him, but seriously. That version is so behind it isn't funny.
Accounts made before May 2007 actually.

Also to OP, yes it is a region block issue. For some reason if you try to log from Europe(or any GMS region blocked area) it doesnt give you any error telling you that your region is blocked from accessing with newer accounts on GMS.
jesus I keep thinking that 2008 was 5 years ago.
yes it is region locked. Only accounts made like 5 years ago or something work since they were made before the ip block
