Coming back after 4 years

I'm currently downloading the client. Dam... 7GB I remember playing this game when it was 700mb back in 2006. I played it for about 5 years before I quit now I'm returning because of nostalgia.
So can you guys catch me up a little? I know there are probably lots of new content and stuff, but what major changes have been since then? The last things I can remember that were implemented were the arena (pvp wasn't good back then) and vocations for crafting your own armor or jewelry.
Also my 2 main characters were a dexless Night Lord (130) and Mercedes (160). Anything I should know about them now?
Thanks and sorry for bad english.

@traitor I'm guessing this star force system was updated a couple of times and I read some outdated info. So the stars cap is 15 right? or is it 25? I really like this upgrading system

@lashuevas3: the level of the equips.

for weapons depending on attack, it adds different stats, on equips it doesnt really matter:
1~49 atk -> 1atk gain
50~99atk -> 2 atk gain
100~149 -> 3 atk gain
150~199-> 4 atk gain
200~249-> 5 atk gain
etc.

Those shoes are outdated they're still worth something but not much

@traitor Sorry to abuse your knowledge, but I got this question about star power. I kinda went crazy about it and maxed all my equips and I noticed they had a max stars cap. What determines that? I think my highest level equips had 12* as max. Somewhere I read you could get 25 stars is this true? Do the amount of stars just depend on the level of the item?

Remember those 27 W.ATT violet snow shoes? I happen to have one and it was the most expensive item I had back then. Do you know how much it is worth now?

Thanks and sorry to bother you again.

@traitor are those reward points shareable between all characters like maple points or nx?

@lashuevas3: http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Character-Card-System.html
burn character is just an event where you level 3 times instead of once until level 100
part time job - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqU6Wih05xU [doesn't really matter]
star planet = mini-games where you can earn rewards points which in the cash shop is redeemable for cash items in the rewards shop section
zero is just zero which starts at 100, that's about it.

@marchiris Thanks. Even if I try to think of it as a new game I'm getting "Deja Vu" everywhere. It's a strange feeling like going back home on a parallel dimension.
Also all my skill points have been reset... ok that's cool, but gotta check some guides to don't mess up. o.o

@noreceipt Thanks. Upgrading equipment looks easier now according to what you said and that's something I wanted to know. Yay at least something stays simple

Welcome back.

Basic scrolls are irrelevant, as they now exist as "Spell Tracing." Spell Trace is an etc item dropped by most mobs. You consume these instead of scrolls using a new function 'Equip Enhance.' Drop item into box, select the scroll you wish to use, 102 is the number of spell traces available in inventory, 8 is the number consumed from using the scroll, this varies between item and scroll choice.
That is the scrolling portion of your item, then comes the Star Force. It costs very little mesos to begin with, but increases as the success rate decreases. Eventually you will reach a point where the Star count will drop if your enhancement fails, even further into the process the chance to 'boom' your item exists. Your 'boomed' item from using Star Force will not be deleted forever. Instead, you will be given an exact copy of your item in a transparent form and will have to sacrifice a clean version of it and redo the Star Force. This does NOT mean other scrolls with a chance to destroy your item are the same. Regular Equip Enhancement Scrolls are still going to destroy your item completely.

All Party Quests are now in a single map accessible through Dimensional Portal located in most (if not all) towns. Many maps have changed, not that you'd need to explore all of it anyways.
Here is a training guide: http://ayumilove.net/best-maplestory-training-spots-guide-v6/
Please figure out how to use World Map to find these locations. They have added functions to guide you and even auto-pilot to some locations.

How to make money:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Maplestory/comments/3lsx59/updated_guide_to_elite_monsters_bosses/
This is a guide to Elite Bosses, which now spawn as you are training. I would go more in depth, but there's that.

Free Market is the same.

Though there are plenty of new contents, there are still minimal training maps to choose from. Those are just quests and bossing for the most part.
Party quests are just simplified, you should be able to complete them without any knowledge. People seem to only do Romeo & Juliet Party quest. Which is mostly grinding in one map.

just....think of it as starting a new game.
character card give you buff depending on character, part time job gives you ore and stuff when you do it, burn character get 2 free level every time you level until lvl 100 and get full set of lvl 100 frozen equips and weapon, star planet is basically bunch of mini games where you can get 2x coupons and zero class start at lvl 120, but have to do whole bunch of class related quests to be able to come out to the real world.

@wall @traitor Thanks that's helpful but I'm already confused on the character select screen. Character cards, part time jobs, burn character, star planet... a class that starts at level 120
o.o o.o o.o o.o o.o
