How to make my breath not smelly

It's unpleasant whenever my friends tell me that my breath smells bad
I don't smoke or anything, but I do brush my teeth three times each day.. still doesn't work

Any suggestions/ recommendations ?
What about morning breath, should I rinse my mouth with Listerene or some other brand?
the reason why your breath smells in the morning is bcus when u go to bed ur metabolic process slows down; thus, your mouth produces fewer secretions (saliva), which is used to wash away the bacteria. so like, u wake up w. a proliferation of bacteria on ur tongue.

drink a cup of water b4 u go to sleep and when u wake up drink water. keep hydrated. i dont like mouthwash cus it irritates my gums, n i find it unnecessary. brush ur tongue.

It may not be your teeth smelling, it may be your tongue. A lot of bacteria can be stuck on it.
Get a Tongue cleaner, I think some places it's called "oral brush" or something. Not sure.
Personally I brush my tongue with toothpaste or special tongue paste (the tongue cleaner I got had special blue paste for the tongue with it) and then scra[y]pe it off (silly Basilmarket filter >.<...) and rinse with water
You gotta try to go as far back as you can but if you have a very sensitive gag reflex it may be hard to do...

Otherwise the stench may also come from your stomach and not from your mouth itself (is what I heard), go to a dentist and if he sees no issue in your mouth you may have some other (most likely treat-able) problem.
For temporary "relief" you could chew gum but make sure it has no sugar or "dangerous" sweeteners (I heard Aspartame can make you sick)

Edit: Actually, some previous commenter is right as well: Check if your tonsils are fine. The little tonsil stones (white-ish to yellow-ish) smell HORRIBLE and you can only really help it by removing them or your tonsils as well.
I had a coworker who had bad breath but it was only ever the smell of those tonsil stones (they, from my experience, all smell the same way so it's rather "easy" to detect)
You may know them yourself, they sometimes pop out of your tonsil pockets when you cough harshly. When you make a gagging movement your pockets open slightly. Look into a mirror. When you see something bright in the back of your throat in a "skinfold", those are your tonsil stones.
Personally I like to remove them myself (probably not a smart idea xD) but it's not something you should do if you're "inexperienced" or not familiar with your oral "anatomy"

Diet could also be influencing the bad breath.

You have to brush your tongue, like 90% of your bad breath comes from your tongue

Brush the back of your tongue. And I'm not talking like two centimeter in. No I'm talking as far back as you can before you barf.
It might sound barbaric but it's the most effective way to get rid of the problem.

The reason some people have bad breath is because of a TOTALLY NORMAL fungus that lives in the back of our tongue. It's the white yogurt looking stuff you see in the far back. It's not dangerous at all and it's really really common but it does tend to make your breath stink, and the only way to get rid of it is to try to brush it away

If you continue to have bad breath you should contact a dentist

btw if you haven't been brushing your gums, when it bleeds (if it does) don't stop brushing there. The more you brush your gums the less it will bleed.

oh right I remember a classmate of mine talking about how she had her tonsils removed because food particles were getting stuck there and it caused her breath to stink. She was given two options. one was to brush back there after every meal which would have been hard to do since you have to get the brush way in to the mouth, even then you couldnt get everything. second option was to get the tonsils removed.

Like others have said, make sure you also brush your tongue. I noticed a huge difference after I started.

You can tell by looking at your tongue
The whiter it is the more bacteria is on it.
Do you brush your tongue and gums?
Lots of people brush their teeth but neither of these. Both of them house bacteria which will cause the smell.
No, just breathe on them and watch their face melt <3
In all seriousness, I think mouthwash daily would help too.
