Need help persuading parents

I need help persuading my parents to let me get a job... Not really good at persuading anyone or anything.

My mom says "stay at home and relax"
> Home is where my stress is coming from, parents too stubborn to listen to me
> Later complains that I sit on my ass all day and do nothing
> Can't drive = no life

Only want a job to pay for college and gain working experience. (Job I want to work at is the school's cafeteria: decent pay, but no transportation needed.)

I just hate the idea of my parents paying all their money for me to get into college
The sad thing is, the amount of saved money most teens get from part-time jobs before college is probably not even 1% of the money you need to pay off all your student loans.

You can work in the cafeteria of the school you go to?

It depends where you live.
If you're from the states I have no idea.
I'm from Ontario,Canada and here, your own income does affect osap (loans and grants from the government) but primarily your parent's income affects you the most. At least here, a job is still beneficial if you remember to save enough of your income. I didn't save enough but thankfully I still got a good amount of money from osap.
@MrPickles ouch man. That sucks.

It depends on where you live. I made the mistake of putting my parents' total income as my own income and student loans lent me ~15% of what I normally would've received. This is in Ontario, Canada. In any case, it would be best if you talked to the people who handle the scholarships, loans, etc. to find out if getting a job will affect the amount of money you receive.

Now that I think about it, if they let me work at the polls hopefully they'll allow me to work at a simple cafeteria

The only reason my parents are afraid of me getting a job is because they're scared that I might get less money for scholarships, financial aid, and other financial support.
Is this true?
It depends on method of payment. If you're being paid with cash at a private company, then no. The government will not see your income. If it's direct deposit then yes, it might affect your financial aid since the government and the college will see it.
Edit: Honestly, do your own research about since you're getting answers from different experiences.
Erm, no I believe it is based off of your parent's income if you are living with them. Their income and what not affects how much you can get for a loan/grant, usually if they are doing well you will get less money than you would if they were struggling/not working the best jobs. This is all based off what I was told, lucky for me, I live alone so I did not have to do any of those things.
Alright thank you both @above

@LeadIn: I don't think getting a job will decrease your chance significantly since it's only part time. You won't be making THAT much money. It mostly depends on your parent's income. Around upper middle class probably won't get financial aid.

My mom was actually worried about this too lol. On the apps, she told me to put 120k instead of 180k and I was like....wth we're so getting caught. So we ended up just putting 180k. There was this new scholarship introduced for people who made 150k and under, so yeah...it's a bit hard to get financial aid.

BUT BUT BUT, if you have a great app with lots of experience, great grades, extracurriculars, etc, you will probably be able to get a merit scholarship.
If you're not in college yet and are still a junior, you can use work experience on your college apps. You get money and experience, double bonus! Plus you said you don't need transportation to do so....so I don't see why your parents would have a good reason to keep you at home
There really isn't a con to getting a job other than it being dangerous...but I doubt working in a cafeteria is dangerous lol. If you're a minor there's not really much you can do if they do not give you their consent to work.

Just have a nice, calm and mature talk with them about why you want to work. Give them your reasons why and explain how logical it is to work at a place you already go to 5 times a day.

If they still refuse than you really have no choice but to wait until you're 18 (assuming that you're a minor) and when you get your license. Life is very limiting when you're not able to drive.

If you don't want to worry about your parents paying for your college and stuff but your parents won't let you work, you can apply for scholarships, loans, and financial aid if you're eligible.

But to be honest, there really isn't anything wrong with having your parents pay for your tuition,
I would be delighted and thrilled if my parents were willing to pay for my classes right now
Pride means nothing when it comes to college life struggles.
Yeah, they might get pissed at you (which I still don't get why they would).
I question this all the time, but thanks for the suggestions!
As I get older, though, and be able to drive (freedom!), I think I'll do me.
Because the school might notify them if anything went wrong and I don't want them to worry/ bpitch about me with a job they never knew I was doing.
Idk why you got to hide that you got a job though. I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than it has to be. Just tell them you're getting a job. Yeah, they might get pissed at you (which I still don't get why they would) but that should only last for a short while; they'll get over it. Just do you man.
So, why exactly do you need their permission? Can't you just get the job without their consent?
