Writing test for license age requirement?
Is there a specific age for me to take the writing portion to getting my license?
Because when I got to the dmv dude, he told me I needed to be 17 1/2 to take my writing test

@Shir: written -> learner's (must drive with someone) -> license after 1-2 years. It's like that everywhere though it's just the age requirement is different. It's still part of the "getting a driver's license" process.
Edit: nvm got it, thanks everyone
@LeadIn:
Anyone in CA that is under 17 1/2 must do
drivers ed
written test
permit
license.
its in that order. once you get your permit you take minimum 6 hrs with a teacher and 50hrs with a guardian. once you meet those requirements + 6 months( or 18th birthday) then you can test for your license
If youre in Cali, the youngest you can apply for a permit is 15 1/2 with a drivers ed certificate. You can get your license exactly 6 months after you get the permit, but have a provisional license for 1 year after the issue date of your license.
At 17 1/2, you can apply for a permit without a drivers ed certificate, but its highly recommended. In 6 months you can get your license, but you get a regular license since youre 18 yrs of age
At 18 you can just take the test straightup without any prior driving documents.
Now I'm confused o.o
Is it certificate > written test > permit > license.
My mom wants me to just take my written test tomorrow and I haven't done behind the wheel and all the other stuff.
Is the written test the first part of getting your license?
Sorry for the bother

Isn't this just for the permit, though? And not the license? If I can recall correctly, there's no written portion for the licence. Permit is 30 MC (14 y/o), license is on the road test (16 y/o)
its probs 17 1/2 then i dont see why they would lie about it.
To earn your California Driving Permit any minor must be: Be at least 15 1/2, but under 18 years of age. Have completed a DMV approved driver education course, like MyCaliforniaPermit.com. Have your DMV certificate of completion of driver education.
Alright guess I can take it tomorrow, maybe because I'm technically not 17 1/2 yet not until the 19th of April

oops forgot to mention, I'm in California.
@dragonbandit, did that.. all I got is permit test and license, nothing about the age requirement of the written test
Depends on the state. In MA its 16. In florida I believe its 15 1/2. Just google your state dmv regulation/law on it.
16 in NY
