Mr Basil, please fix this Deputy reporting nonsense

Over the past day there have been multiple comments and even a thread or two that have been reported by "deputies", and hence dimmed and at risk of being deleted, on the basis of said deputy simply not liking the comment/thread. None of the ones that I have seen have broken rules in any way.

1 of them simply pointed out how NL's mark of NL is similar to NW bats when it comes to flying around the map hitting things

1 thread just had a youtube video of a NW doing hellux. If that is against the rules then probably 1/5 of basil needs to be reported/taken down because it is related to bossing videos.

Another comment was, again, something that someone simply disagreed with and felt the need to report even though it was not against site rules. None of the ones I have seen have been derogatory, none of them have used foul language, none of them have been advertising anything or breaking any of the other rules.

Please dial back the powers of deputies. I know it is more work up front for you, but perhaps you could have a form people have to fill out, with some sample posts or something and ask them if they would report or not and why. People have shown that they cannot handle this responsibility given to them. At the very least, could you make it so that a post/thread needs more than simply 1 report to be dimmed?

I sent the abyss idea to mrb. It's a great idea and I'm sure it's easy to implement too. I'll keep you guys updated.
I can see the report you're talking about, but the thread/comment has been erased somehow so I don't have a context to go on. I'll be keeping a list of the people who submitted reports that're invalid, so they'll lose Deputy status if they pull this trick again.
The other two reports currently in the queue make more sense. (I'm not taking care of them, because it's past midnight and I'm not exactly reliable past 11 PM).

At any rate there are a few things I'd like to ask MrBasil and there's an idea I want to pitch to him regarding this dimming and deleting system. Until then I'm going to be careful with this "list of iffy reporters" so I won't incriminate anyone.

TS, I saw the report you were talking it. It wasn't against the rules so I skipped the report. Though I forgot who reported it. Sorry about that, this system is in beta. I'll remember to write it down next time.

3 reports = thread is hidden. Except mods aren't able to see it either, which is a problem. When this was a fresh idea, Kevvl suggested an "abyss" section; threads would be automatically moved there and be hidden from public view. Right now it deletes the thread.
Thanks for looking at this. I know the system is still in beta, which is why I made this thread. These kinds of bugs should be ironed out while it is still in beta. I really do like the idea of an abyss section though, it would give the mods final say over posts, which is how it should work in my opinion.

I can't tell if this is like an annual "abuse your mod power" week at basil or something. Too bad this will also get deleted Mods have too much PJSalt in their systems

Bleh, I didn't expect "hidden" to equal "deleted". That needs to be fixed. I prefer the Abyss Section. *puts on agenda*
the person was clearly advertising their own youtube video/channel. why not go post it up on basil then talk about it after? thats why we have a video section no?
Yes, but I have little to no information to go on as far as this case is concerned, so I can't judge it.

Alright this is my understanding of the deputy system at the moment. If you have a report button, you are a deputy whether you want to be or not, which i find silly. There should be an option of whether you want to report a comment as a deputy or not cause of the dimming thing. Also, as with all reports before, mods can see who reported what and if they see a person is just abusing their power/don't agree with the report, they can simply reverse the reports/ if necessary remove the deputy's powers.

I totally agree that the deputy system should be more exclusive. Also, wrong section.
