My mother got laid off

Hi guys, my mom got laid off today.

Since she made a lot of money in comparison to my dad (they both made about 200K a year), our house income has been cut in half.

But I think it's alright because my mom was an tech support at Sony and she hated her job after 10 years.

She's kinda old (45+ish) and I was wondering what your thoughts were on what she should do.

If she went back into software, she could make a lot of money again, but she wouldn't enjoy it (what she's being doing for the past 25 years)
If she did something else (?) she could perhaps enjoy something new, but would make probably well less money.

I dunno what to say. I'm 16 so I have to go to college soon... but I also really want my mom to enjoy herself. She's always pissed off and angry I think mostly because of her job. Now that she's free I don't know if I want to send her back to that.

So what do you guys think?
And also, what jobs do you think are good for a woman of her age and intellect (she has a college degree)...?

Strange questions I know, but I'm just interested in what you have to say.
actually if you live in expensive places such as california/NY/etc., sometimes people can struggle with 100k a year.
That's exactly like me. I live in the Bay Area California and I am middle class even though my parents both made that much money.
In my private school (middle school) I was in the lower 25% of income levels (aside from scholarship kids). Most kids there were like multimillion dollar families.
There is no way your mom made $200k a year by being a tech support at Sony. Tech support people get $20 max per hour.
She wasn't tech support, she was data management, but I don't expect most basilers to know what that is.

200k a year from both of them? What are you worried about then? Are you going to have to downgrade from a privately owned island to a mansion?

Sorry to hear Luckily both my parents still have their jobs, but my dad did get a nasty pay cut.

Jesus dude, $200k a year was a lot anyways, even with $100k you'll still manage for the year.

If anything, your mom can get a part time or something in something that she finds less tedious.
I don't think she even needs to work, since your dad makes a lot already. My mom makes only around 30k a year(I think a little less), and we live comfortably, and she's currently paying for my brother's university fees and will pay for mine next year when I begin college. I honestly don't know how she manages it, but right now she plans to pay off all the college funds (no loans for us, and of course there's the grants we get for being low income) so me and my brother don't have to worry about them after uni. I'm sure your mom can do whatever she wants to do without money being much of a problem.
Ah yeah, I should have clarified. It is a lot, I know, but I live in a really affluent area where the houses are really expensive so a lot of it gets eaten by paying the mortgage, I think.

So it's not as much as it seems.

But nevertheless I'll think about what you said.

I think it's a masters degree but I can't be sure. It's in some sort of computer science area.

Make your dad work. Your mom should do what she wants to do. In this economy, it's really hard finding a job you want to do. It's really hard just finding a job. This is coming from a guy whose parent makes less than 80k a year.
