[header]UPDATE AS OF 18:27 BT ON 4/20[/header]

taking questions and answering them in this thread as of now as well as editing some videos that i've recorded and collecting frequently asked questions for dis guide.

so i haven't made a thread like this in forever, so please bare with me.

[header]Letter from the Author.[/header]

hi, i'm Mademoiselle. i'm a makeup artist who went to school for makeup artistry, cosmetics, and general knowledge over esthiology.

as a bit of a background, i'm 19 years old, male though look female, have been obsessed with makeup and skincare for about 2 years and completed more than 560 hours over these topics. i am not an esthetician, though because as a makeup artist it's required to know the skin types and everything you're working on with just a glance, i was required to learn a lot of these things as well as makeup artistry. i was also researching and trying skincare products out before i went to school and because of my age have gone through puberty and do know what it's like to not have flawless skin.

i've had a few basilID's, all of which have been deleted for one reason or another, but the only ones i've ever been known for are this and Narcissus. i previously made a thread about this and answered people's questions about these issues almost a year ago, and it was a rather large thread. i was very happy to help everyone and even when the thread died, i was content with the thought that if anyone ever needed to skim through it, they could just go find the thread once more.

sadly the last time my basilID was deleted it deleted the thread as well, and knowing me and my luck this account might one day be deleted too.
since this is a possibility, and last time i had intended on making this thread more of a guide rather than a Q&A with everyone, i intend to make skincare videos over every skin type, how acne for each can be treated, basic general knowledge, basic general makeup for both men and women (yes guys can wear concealer thx) and various other things like recommended products and reviews. i also intend to just write it out in case people can't look at the videos or dislike staring or listening to me lolol.

[header]As of now I'm in need of one thing.[/header]

i plan to do a video answering every single frequently asked question in this thread so that hopefully that will eliminate the need of a lot of the same questions being asked. because of this i will need you guise to ask me questions, and would appreciate it vry much if you do. generally speaking, this thread cannot be made successful and hopefully help people who suffer from skin or acne problems without you.

in saying that, i hope that i can halp everyone to the best of my ability and that this thread won't totally suck.

lahv,

Mademoiselle.

[header]The General Message of this Thread.[/header]

There are a lot of things you can do to help with acne and your skin. But the most important thing to realize is that this is mostly trial and error.
I'm recommending things that work for most people, or structures in which you should do things, but a lot of people don't find their perfect skincare routine for years. Though frustrating, this is a process and once you have found what works for you, you'll definitely be the better for knowing what it is you know for yourself and your confidence.

[header]Skin Types[/header]

What type of skin type do I have?

What is a skin type?

A skin type is basically just a method of organization based on how your skin produces oils, formally known as sebum. It helps identify as well as recommend regimes and and possible fixes for acne and products you can use specifically made for your skin type.

There are three main types of skin types. Oily, Dry, and Normal.

Oily skinned people in a very obvious manner have oily skin pretty much everywhere.
Dry skinned people in a very obvious manner have dry skin pretty much everywhere.
Normal skin is when you don't have an excess or a loss of oil. It's just normal.

Now this is when it gets a little tricky. There's also Combination Oily and Combination Dry skin, which many people do have.

Combination Oily skinned people have an oily t-zone and either dry skin or normal skin everywhere else.
Combination Dry skinned people have a dry t-zone and either oily skin or normal skin everywhere else.

Acne prone or Sensitive skin is a sub-type of pretty much any skin type. You can have Acne Prone or Sensitive skin regardless of your skin type.

Acne prone skinned people are prone to getting acne very easily, and Sensitive skinned people are also prone to acne but also allergic reactions.
Knowing the difference between an allergic reaction and a breakout can sometimes be hard to differentiate, but at the same time might be easier if you think about when it was that you got this breakout, if your acne is normally this bad or looks like this, etc.

If you ever feel a burning sensation that's very uncomfortable when using any facial products, unless that's a side-effect, wash it off your face immediately.

[header]Oily Skin[/header]

General Products and Regime.

Oily Skin and You.

The first thing you should know if you have oily skin is consider your age. A lot of times I hear people saying things like 'well we're teenagers so of course we have oily skin!' or people will say 'i look greasy this is awful omg i hate this i hate this i hate this.'

Oily skinned people are actually luckier than Dry skinned people. When your body naturally produces more sebum/oil, you look younger for longer.
Yeah that's right, you'll look younger for longer.
As in you'll be 40 and look 30.

This is because sebum in itself sort of preserves your tissue and cells because in a sense, it's preserving your face. The downside is that even though you technically have the fountain of youth on your side, oily skinned people have harder times finding foundations that work for them, should exfoliate just as much if not more than dry skinned people, still do need to moisturize, and tend to get acne easier if they don't treat their skin properly.

As a general structure for a skincare regime if you have Oily Skin, you should be using or can use in this order...

1) An Oil Free Cleanser
• (1-2 times a day)
2) An Exfoliator
• (2-3 times a week)
3) A Toner
• (1-2 times a day)
4) An Acne Serum/Cream
• (1-2 times a day)
5) Oil-Free Moisturizer
• (1-2 times a day)

Of course if you just want to use an exfoliator, or just a cleanser, or whatever you can stray away from this structure. If you intend on using them as a routine though, this is the method in which you should do it. On a similar note, if you do use an oil-free moisturizer, you might not want to apply it before you go to sleep. If you take showers at night, this would be an alright idea. But if not, since your body naturally produces sebum while you sleep, you might just end up being double oily.
Try it out if you like and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, just apply moisturizer in the mornings after you use toner or after you shower or whatever.

If I pop a pimple with pus in it, is it wise to put 99% hand sanitizer gel on it to kill the bacterias? or should i clean it with water?

well what products do you use as of now?
and that's normal, yes. the best way to eliminate them would be to just use an acne cream on it, or if it gets too large, pop it with a sterilized needle or something.
thanks! i'll keep that in mind.

I don't exfoliate. Should I? Oh and I forgot to ask earlier, is there anything that could help fade scars?
yes you should. personally i have mega dry skin and i use this, have used it for almost a year now.

and toning your skin, exfoliating, doing facial masks like an eggwhite facial/lemon juice facial and such all help fade scars.
Could we see you without make up or any appliances and stuff on? Also, is that your real hair?
i don't leave the house without makeup on let alone take pics of it lol
though some pics do exist where i was just wearing foundation and that was it.
i used to have a lot of acne a few years ago, well not a lot, but enough where you can notice it.
i still have a few active pimples here and there, but after a few hours they're gone, i have a few acne scars but you can barely notice them.
but i have these weird pigmented dark spots on my cheeks, and i can't seem to get them to go away. currently i'm using powder foundation to make them less noticeable but you can still see some of it, and i'm washing my face 3 times a day with Murad.
any idea how i can get these stupid little mushroom looking things to go away?
what do you mean weird pigmented dark spots? i thought you just meant acne scars but previously you stated acne scars as something different?
and do you have oily skin if you're using powdered foundation?
is it normal that for a few days your Pimple/Face is flat and like not pimple like . But when you come back to it in a few days it comes back ? o: And not sure , but is toothpaste a good solution to getting rid of pimples ? Last time I tried it I got burned . Guess my skinned was irritated . ):
yes that is normal lol
you don't always just get pimples in the same spot all the time, and a lot of factors can cause breakouts randomly. and toothpaste is a solution only if you want to get rid of like...ONE pimple and you can't wait to just do it with acne creams and such. if your skin got irritated i would not recommend doing that at all.

I'm starting accutane in a month after i finish 1 month of birth control. It's still available but females have to be on birth control while taking it and all patients should know that there have been lawsuits regarding accutane and suicides and some type of organ failure. My derm says that a young girl like me should have no problem with it and it should clear up my acne

Yikes! Use Hydrocortisone cream to relieve itching on your eczema area, or Triamcinolone cream. I know eczema probably itches a LOT and hurts your self esteem. Triamcinolone is prescribed, and you can buy Hydrocortisone from a Pharmacy
I've been off accutane for almost two years now and now I'm left with pretty dry skin. Any good (Non-comedogenic) products? All I'm using for moisturizer is some Pond's lotion but that leaves me looking greasy.
i've heard good thing about pond's but if it's seriously making you greasy i would try a neutrogena moisturizer for dry skin, or any that you find at a drugstore to be honest. MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T SAY OIL-FREE BTW, when you have dry skin you want oil. i recommend this just because i wouuuld say get a clinique moisturizer, but that's twice as expensive as a neutrogena moisturizer, so you may as well just try that one out before you spend more money. it should work though.
do you exfoliate by the way?
such a very good thread. do you recommend shaving with an electric or manual razor for someone who is prone to breakouts?

im planning on using an electric shaver

This :O
Also one more question xP
For some odd reason my skin gets somewhat dry when I step out of the shower o.o could you recommend me a good moisturizer that doesnt leave my face all shiny?
alright, so there's a few things you should know about shaving.

for one thing, if you use an electric razor you won't get as close as a shave. this is both good and bad depending on which type of shaver you have.
it's good because if you get too close a shave, you're more prone to getting razor bumps. the bad thing is that if you attempt to get too close of a shave on accident or without knowing this, you'll be cutting the hair in a way you don't want to and the hair will grow at an angle. this is what is called an ingrown hair.

what i use to remedy the whole ingrown hair situation is using a salicylic acid toner after i shave. to be honest it'll be a little red, it won't burn burn, but it's like a form of aftershave. salicylic acid helps with acne and for some reason, from my personal experience and other's recommendations before i tried it, it reduces the amount of ingrown hairs you'll get.

i know this because (short story comin' through) in november of last year i i started using a toner for dry skin that didn't have saliclyc acid or anything in it. i noticed that i got a looooot more razor bumps and what i thought was acne and had no idea why for quite awhile. i even bought a new razor head thinking that the old one was too old xd i later realized after reading about remedies that salicylic acid worked, and prior to november i had always used a salicylic acid toner from neutrogena. i went back to using it again and my ingrown hairs have deeeefiniiteelllyyy gone down in number by a lot.

well first off because i'm assuming you're taking a form of prescription medicine for your acne, has your doctor told you anything that you can't use or something? i know that for certain products you should wear sunscreen more because your face will be more sensitive to light, or it'll be more dry but you can't use a certain form of moisturizer, etcetc
First of all ! I love your videos xoxoxoxoxoo. Second, would you recommend someone that has oily skin use a concealer, instead of liquid makeup ?

Thanks in advance, keep the videos coming ;]
well thank you :]
this really depends on what you're going for. if you're going for more of a completely natural look, or just concealer, then yes i would definitely go for just a concealer around your nose and lips and on trouble spots or wherever. however, if you're going for an overall foundation look, it would be better to just use concealer first on whichever parts of your face need it, and then go over it with a powdered foundation. you should always use a concealer first before powdered foundation because the powder helps it blend better and it sets it.
Am I allowed to use concealer to hide my acne? What brand is good? lol..
you can :]
the best concealer i've EVER used is from MAC. it's their studio fix concealer.
the best drugstore concealer i've ever used waaaas.... almay's smart shade concealer. it blends in to your skintone really easily. as of now i use a lot of makeup that's considered 'high end' but for teens and people with acne in general i definitely lovelovelove almay and neutrogena.
are you in beauty college?
i went to a school for cosmetics and finished in december. it was just on makeup artistry and general skincare/esthiology. i was also required to take 2 weeks of cosmetology, being hair, and i completely failed. i mean i can do haircuts that were known in the 20s and 40s BARELY, but i literally grabbed my mannequin by the hair and slammed it against the walls out of frustration those 2 weeks AHAHAH
hence why i'm not doing anything really about hair, though i have used a lot of hair products in my day and such so i might recommend some, without the advanced styling.
Love you! I got a few questions for you. DDDD

1. Does oily lasts forever or until you're in the 20s or when you finish puberty?
2. Do you know if "Proactive" Products work? I wasn't sure if I should buy it since one of my friends: he uses it, but if he stops, acne starts coming back (a lot...)
3. I have mostly problem with blackheads (like the black dots on your face), can you recommend any products that can improve or (hopefully eliminate them?)
4. How do you get such perfect skin.... -_-'! Do you have a food regime?
some people get a spike in oily skin when they're a teenager, however if you have the skin type oily...that'll be until you're fairly older. older people have dryer skin in general, but you'll always have oily skin if that's your skin type.

proactive is a hit or miss. the thing is, when you start to use a line of products like every day or as a routine (like 3-4 step systems etc) your body gets used to not having to produce antibodies so to speak, or just anything that might have naturally prevented acne prior to using it. because of which your body is relying on proactive for example to diminish acne. this is also why for example if you wax your hair enough, it may kill the hair follicles, but at the same time your body learns not to grow hair as much.

where do you mostly get blackheads? i'm imagining on your t-zone if you have oily skin?

i don't actually have flawwwlesss skin. i do have some acne scars that are fading, and i do get pimples and such still. most people do. ahaha
however i do eat a lot of fruits and have tried to stop eating the things that broke me out a lot, and because of which my acne has diminished. i have flawless looking skin because of foundation and concealer tricks, along with that most of my face (unless there's a pimple) is a flat plane. with makeup you can make yourself look flawless and change any discoloration, like red, to normal looking colors. but you can't change texture, so if you have a pimple/bump, that pimple/bump will still be there regardless of foundation.
so if i use toothpaste on a pimple, how long do i leave it before washing it off?
not very long, though i've heard it can kind of help with the pimple but is more used with blackheads and such o: i wouldn't leave it on for minutes, more like less than a min.
whenever i have used it i saw okay results, was gone fairly quickly. i only recommend it for people who want to get rid of their pimples and such (or to help) who cannot wait to go about it in normal means like acne creams and such.
yay, i'm glad you made this thread.

i want to start getting into foundation since i've been getting terrible acne on my cheeks. i want to know what you would recommend. preferably a drugstore brand aimed for oily/acne prone skin.

well i would DEFINITELY recommend almay's acne line, their liquid foundation would do you good o: since it has salicylic acid it dries out your skin as well as helps with acne all day long. i used it and it made my acne go away a lot, but since i have dry skin it ended up drying me out waaay too much xd
as for BB cream's i do like them but i've never really used one because they're so hard to come by. MAC made a BB cream awhile ago and then only sold it at select airports or something, i wanted to kill them. it might have been released now but i haven't checked specifically. they're good though o:
Thanks for the help tried the mask and it made my skin slightly lighter o-0 Im sure I'll see significant results in about a month.
After browsing through the read I got to wondering: does the amount of water you drink affect your acne? o.o Since I drink very little water this may contribute to the problem xP and if drinking water does help how much should I drink per day?
:]
and there aren't any studies that have proved it does, but some people swear by drinking water for their acne. it's definitely something you should try, i mean it's healthy and it's pretty much free ahaha. a few glasses a day would be good for starters.
One thing that goes unnoticed but is huge when it comes to maintaining clear, blemish-free skin is to change your pillow case every 2-3 days (after flipping the pillow every night). Oil, dead skin, and dirt collects on the pillow and when your face is mashed up against it, it creates pressure acne.

This can be a huge problem for people who sleep on their stomach or on their side.

For those with "backne", changing your bedsheets every 2 days will yield similar results. It's tedious, but once you start seeing results, you'd agree that it's worth it.
i would definitely go to a dermatologist, because it's a lot harder to get out the sebum or help minimize it and such. you can do things like ice cube facials, which literally is getting an ice cube and running it over your face, and other things like benzoyl peroxide and tea tree oil to help penetrate the skin and hopefully release some of that sebum excess and such, but if those don't work a dermatologist is the only one who can really help you on that D: it's something that needs to be done face to face.

I will admit I haven't been taking good care of my skin for a good... forever, so my face is kinda a mess D: I pretty much only wash my face when I shower (once a day) and I have had a nasty habit of popping almost every pimple on my face (hence the scars xd).
Well yea, if you could recommend a solution to me that would be great (amazing even), and I would prefer some sort of natural method since stuff here in Mexico is pretty expensive xP but feel free to recommend some products.
PS: someone posted this video a while ago and I have most of this stuff lying around, so if this mask would help I would be glad to make it ASAP xP
yess that video is one that i recommended as well! it does work!
when it comes to natural things, if your skin is normal i would try tea tree oil. i wouldn't recommend you use it too often, but it is a natural product and it shouldn't overdry your skin if your skin type is more on the normal side. you can also make a natural exfoliator by using granulated cane sugar and honey. another thing you can use and i would recommend is using lemon juice as a facial. just put some lemon juice on a cotton pad and run it over the scars. it will make your skin more sensitive to light and it will be slightly irritated since it's an acid and is penetrating the skin, but it's cheap, homemade, and the redness should go away fast. it does help fade scars faster.

do you exfoliate/use facial masks/use cleansers of any sort?
*just saw your second post
if it's a matifying drying toner, because of the acne medication you're taking, it might dry out your skin a LOT. however you can give it a try or a trial run basically, and it is true that toners help fade scars and such.

Also...

I have this toner.

Before taking my doctor's pills, I used it and it made my skin really dry. Now that I've taken the pills, my acne's cleared up but I still have like the "remnants" of them...if that makes sense. I heard toner, if used religiously, can help refresh the look of skin after acne. Do you think that I should start using the toner again?

How do you combine toner+moisturizer/lotion so that your face is not too dry?

Merciiiii.
Kinda normal skin I think ._.
do you use any products as of now?
Yeah it is, keeps my skin remarkably creamy and moist. I don't know if that's the right adjectives but that's how it feels. ahhh well alright
in that case, then yes you'll want to exfoliate for sure. helps with the fading of scars process.
tea tree oil also helps fade scars. things like protecting the scars by using sunscreens helps as well, along with facial masks and some products exist that fade scars like clinique's skin tone corrector.
Oh my gosh! Don't recommend toothpaste! It would work for really minor acne on a quick fix but that's about it. Stuff burns and causes inflammation in some cases.
...i know the only times i've recommended it were when people said they wanted it gone vry fast because they only had one pimple or something ahaha
you're right in that i wouldn't normally use it myself, but i also don't try any quick fixes to get rid of acne if i get like a pimple in the morning. i just apply acne cream and wait till it flattens.
Oh, goody. Okay so I have pretty dry skin, as in eczema runs in the family yet I nearly escaped it type of skin. Get blemishes on the side of my face from razor-induced pimples. what i use after i shave is a salicylic toner from neutrogena. it's their oil eliminating estringent. it definitely minimizes the amount of pimples i get from razors by a loot.
i haven't used the wash but i do know the toner does work for me, and i do have very dry skin. as for exfoliators, you would need a moisturizing exfoliator like michelle phan's dry skin exfoliator that you can make at home. i've been using it ever since she made that video and i use it year round.

isn't melaleuca like... a form of tea tree oil or something?
Just been seeing a lot less pimples... only the occasional breakout which is not very often. I used to have them all over my forehead, but now there are a buncha bumps on my forehead which aren't pimples or anything dunno what they are.

I use cetaphil oily skin cleanser, moisturize with Clinique moisturizing gel, biore microderm exofoliator, biore pore cleansing strips.
Also I have a lot of big pores on my nose anything to help out with that?
well that's good. and as for the bumps it sounds like sebum is getting stuck in your pores, which isn't at all good
the cleanser you're using from cetaphil might be causing it to be honest, but then again any product could. did you notice the bumps after continued usage of a certain product? also for your nose, try ice cold water. it tightens your pores.
I use warm water, and I use both clinique and johnson facial cleanser. I don't use any moisturizer since my face is naturally oily.
switch to cold water, and is either of the cleansers for acne?
and you still do need a moisturizer! there are moisturizers for oily skin.
Alright. Also, if you pop pimples in that area, goes it increase the life of the scars?
technically no, but i wouldn't recommend popping them and causing new scars xd
What if i wanna get rid of it like quickly, im not going out with a pimple =o
quickly? you could pop it with a sterilized needle, use an ice cube on top of it and then put something like an acne cream on top of it.
or tooth paste and then an ice cube.
I think my skin is normal? It's smooth but it gets dry when i use acne products. @_@ Any recommendations? I'm currently using AcneFree and it's not working out so great. It just dries the pimples but not my acne.
that does make sense. do you use any sort of moisturizer as of now?
and most acne products dry out your skin but mostly your pimples, i must admit
How to get the dark circles and bags to go away?
the quickest way i've heard is to use something like a green tea bag (caffeinated) on your undereye circles. make sure it's not hot!
there are products from RoC that have agents that help get rid of them as well. there are a lot of undereye creams that work incredibly well.
technically undereye circles can be genetic as well, in which case you might not ever be able to fully get rid of them without makeup or something

i was editing the oily skin vid.
YES my hair WAS OILY BEFORE USING HEAD AND SHOULDERS TOO

How much water would you recommend a person with lots of acne drink? I heard that drinking too much water can wash away some mineral salts in your body? Is this true?

How important is it to use toner or moisturizer ?

Would you recommend me to use concealer to cover my acne/pimples? I heard concealer can in fact make your pimples worst.

Is it bad if I exfoliate my skin more than once a week?
technically yes, drinking water helps with acne. but not much.
when you drink water you're helping minerals and nutrients and everything, including waste, move more effectively through your body. this of course can help fight infection as well as dryness and other things, all of which may attribute to acne. however no studies have ever proven that drinking water actually does benefit acne. not a single study.

a toner i would say is of medium importance on the scale. a moisturizer is more important definitely.
i mean a toner would be really great for helping get rid of leftover cleanser or oils and everything, and if you could get it i would deeeefinitely approve. but if you have dry skin for instance and tone your skin without moisturizing it, you could end up with even dryer skin and thus possibly worse acne.

no, it is not bad at all. if you have oily skin i would recommend it 2-3 times a week, dry skin is 1-2 times. normal skin is just whatever works for you.
Problem: oily face and blackheads.
Solutions I have tried: blackhead scrubs, those sticks that you push to get blackheads out, face cleanser, washing face frequently, blotting paper.
Question: is there anything I can do to have less oily skin?
when you wash your face, do you use warm or cold water?
do you use a moisturizer?
what kind of facial cleanser do you use?
How fast can you expect to get rid of acne scars?
it can take anywhere from 2 months - 4 months, or even longer. it's awful that it takes so long, but scars take quite awhile to fade sadly. the only way to get rid of it quickly is microdermabrasion, which is mega expensive.
About time this came back.
Can you recommend me a nice cream? since I don't live in the US, I might as well buy it on internet.

Thank you in advance.
the best acne cream that i've personally used are the benzoyl peroxide creams from neutrogena. before i used the neutrogena on-the-spot acne treatment i was using a 3 step system from them that had a day and a night lotion. for me, since my skin was so dry, i couldn't do all the steps and i suffered from acne quite a bit because of it. but then i started using just the night cream, which had 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (i used it during the day and like all over my cheeks and such lolo) my acne had cleared up!
i would suggest the neutrogena creams because i personally have a lot of experience with them and since you have oily skin it would be even better because it does kind of dry it out, but it may dry your skin out just right. benzoyl peroxide treatments go up to 10%, but the higher the dosage the more your skin will be sensitive to light and such. also know that if you use like... a 6% treatment, a lot of the time your skin will get immune and that's why you'll need a higher dosage. the on the spot acne treatment is a 2.5% that doesn't rly become immune ever and works as well as a 10% cream.
I think this should be stickied. This is some great stuff going on.
But putting toothpaste on zits actually works, well for me anyways. Leave it on for a few minutes and it gets less red and it shrinks a bit.
and it's only just beguuunnn
and that does work actually, but it can damage your skin xd also using clear eyes, you know the eyedrops for redness, help get rid of redness on acne. so odd but so cool ahaha. i'm guessing this is because eyedrops that get rid of redness basically bleach your eyes and cancel out the red.

well it's only been 2 weeks, but i had bacne and shoulder acne as well for a long time. not so much chest acne, thank god since i can wear vnecks
but i was self conscious about it for a very long time... the one thing that worked for me was getting a cotton pad with tea tree oil and applying it on these areas. tea tree oil actually helps fade scars and is also a natural antibiotic so it helps kill the bacteria that causes acne on your body.

well because you have oilycombo skin your pores are always going to look kind of large or have blackheads in a sense
the best thing you can do is do something like use something like a sulfur mask and then use an ice cube to tighten your pores after you've washed off the mask.
the best thing to do would be to clean out the pores and then try to tighten them so that if you do happen to get any blackheads, they won't be vry noticeable.
however since your nose is pretty much the largest appendage on your face, and since your cheeks and such get oily around that, it may always be hard.
but i'm more assuming that you're getting a lot of blackheads around your T-Zone. is it in other areas?

and if you have oily skin it's good to exfoliate, but you should maybe switch it to every other day. it won't necessarily change the acne formation so much, but you'll prematurely age if you constantly use a harsh exfoliant on your face everyday. and pretty much any exfoliant is harsh if you use it erryday xd

Im a guy. picture day is tomorrow. how 2 put on makeup? DERP
srslu tho.
well male makeup is just powder and some concealer. it's incredibly easy, you would just need a kabuki brush and some loose powder, and a concealer that's about the same as your face, maybe a little lighter. just brush some loose powder onto your face (or you can even put some on a facial sponge and dab your face) and for concealer just run it around your undereye circles with your fingers (GENTLY) and you're fine.
err, exfoliating my skin has never come to mind. should i do so?
yes you def should
people with oily skin need to exfoliate even more than people with dry skin because they get a lot of dead skin cell and oil build up in their pores
i've heard a lot of things about a peach scrub from st. ives? or an acne scrub from them that i know a lot of people on basilmarket have used and they all say works wonders. since i have dry skin i use a different type of scrub since that scrub would make my skin drier, but i've srsly only heard good things about it,
the scars were there for....2 months=[
well one thing is that sunlight can actually make them more present. the best thing to do would be to exfoliate and tone your skin regularly so that your skin regenerates new skin faster and thus fades the marks faster. you can also do something like an egg mask facial or there are products from clinique that work wonders on fading them as well o:
I've heard that Accutane can cause nasty side effects, what are they, exactly?
mainly a lot of negative things to your liver, allergic reactions with your body, and possibly worse acne
since it's a pill the main concern is your liver above all else though.
neutrogena oil free acne wash, body wash. I've had acne for six...? years, kind of gave up.. XD

powdered foundation makes the dry parts of my skin flakey and the oily parts clumpy + it gets in the pores owo >helpless cause
well for your skincare you should definitely try neutrogena's oil free moisturizer for combination skin, it works vry well.
for a cleanser would you say that you've noticed a difference while using the oil free acne wash? cause if not you may need to use something that's not oil free.
for the powdered foundation thing, you need to make sure you're not applying too much powdered foundation. since you have combination skin you have to be tricky and do something like... use a cream foundation over the dry parts and avoid the oily parts, then set it with a powder that's of a similar color/consistency and then apply it a little more so (but evenly) on the oily parts. combination skin is definitely an issue at times with makeup, but you can also use a primer on the oily parts of your skin and it won't be as oily and your makeup won't slip as much :]
