Nexon was one of the first (if not THE first) developer to truly bring the "micro-transaction" payment model to online gaming successfully, which is where they built their early reputation.
But they were also one of the first to get horribly greedy and break the system they pioneered by pricing the game out of reach of a lot of players.
Essentially they killed the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, and the dramatic drop in the number of players in Maplestory points right at that fact.

I'm withholding judgement on Maplestory2 in regards to the whole "whale" situation.
We still don't know if Nexon plans to just continue "business as usual" and price it for the whales that don't mind dropping a lot of cash at the expense of the game and 90% of the potential playerbase, or whether they might move to return to their original "micro-transaction" business model.
Given how greedy they've become in recent years, I can't see them backing off the $$$$ addiction any time soon.

Also, you'll note Nexon was NOT included in that list of developers working toward fixing the "F2P" game model at the end of the video.

I dont think it looks appealing... It doesn't fit in with current gen MMOs.

He doesn't even go into the pseudo-gambling aspect that exists in many f2p games. That could be a whole other video.

I think that's where MapleStory2 comes in. Despite what it seems, I believe it has the opportunity to overcome what the current MapleStory's shortcomings. The game looks appealing enough to attract many players, old and new, for a new game experience.
