Sounds like my specialty. Go with the second from bottom tier of WD Passports or Seagates. Not size but tier. Like Elements, My passport and such. The lowest tier of WDs fail pretty easily. Comparatively though, which is many years for average consumers.
Size, 1TBs are around 70$. Let's say internal HDs start failing around 3 years on 24/7 uptime.
Go to your local computer store, best way.

Never bought one before. Just feel like I should actually get one for backup purposes

So I'm soliciting information from basil because I'm too lazy to do any sort of research
