Help me get into Dubstep

So, recently, I learned that my boyfriend seems to love Dubstep, so I started listening to it too, but I can't really seem to get into it... A lot of the heavy bass flanging and synth growls grate on my ears, and the track shuffling often feels out of place, or unnecessary. I've tried to get "into" it all afternoon, but I just can't seem to enjoy it. However, I'm still trying to push myself into at least "liking" it so that we can have a little more common ground, so I'm asking if anyone can reccommend some skilled artists for me to listen to so that I can at least get a foothold on the genre. Any recommendations will be appreciated

UPDATE: Sorry for the late response! It's taking a lot longer to go down the list than I thought it would.

If it helps with further recommendations, I really liked the following:
@shadowmagezx: recommended Subscape - Turn Me On

@MushDit: recommended La Roux 'In For The Kill' - Skrillex remix

@Ramunesun: recommended a lot of great stuff, but I really enjoyed Digital Mystikz - Anti-War Dub, and also Atmosphere - Yesterday (loved) , and Danger - 11h30

@PERiL: also recommended a lot of good stuff, particularly Amy Kuney - Kiss Me Like You Mean It (Butch Clancy Remix) , Above & Beyond - You Gotta Go (Seven Lions Dubstep Remix) , and Massive Attack - Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix) (loved)

@imtwocats: Mt Eden Dubstep - Still Alive

...so far, so good. I'm still listening to your recommendations, but so far I'm getting a good perspective of the genre... It's not bad... in the right hands. Thanks

If you feel compelled to change your musical tastes in order to appease your boyfriend, then you probably should reevaluate your relationship.
If he can't accept you for who you are, then he doesn't deserve you.
If you're trying to change for him, then you're lacking self confidence.

Just stay true to yourself, because after-all, the person he fell in love with was the original you.

EDIT: Buuut, to be more helpful, start off with "softer" dubstep, so to speak, before moving onto the hardcore ones. Do you like pop music? Because many genres today, especially pop, has been incorporating dubstep into their songs to attract a wider audience. Artists such as Flo Rida, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, etc... are all using dubstep in their songs. Here's one of my favorites. He's house, rather than dubstep, but many of the beats house music use are synonymous with dubstep. Try listening to AVICII and more of his songs.

Um... what? I don't want to mirror him; I just want to share some of his interests so that we relate better and have more to talk about. It has nothing to do with desperation or my "intelligence". Either way, whether or not rap and dubstep are "worthless" or not, I want to give it a genuine assessment and actually try to like it before I come to such a solid conclusion.

Backpacker Rap and Real Dubstep would like to have a word with you.

Also, I don't think that wanting to get interested in a certain type of music is a bad thing. Not only does it add another layer of depth and a shared interest in the relationship, but it also adds to one's own cultural well-roundedness
Listen to this guy. From all my years on basil, I think that he is the most music-guru-guy. Or at least, he is the most music-guru-guy that posts on basil. There could be other music-gurus out there, but they don't post as much as ramune.
Ahaha well thanks for the compliment
By the way, OP, you might want to approach this sort of music from an electro standpoint since I find that the style of music you're trying to get into resembles that more than actual dubstep.
(Here's some tracks that I think are both great and accessible)
If he likes dubstep such as "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites", which is pretty much full bass, I would say to start with dubstep remixes of songs that you like. Because those still have a good amount of treble and some bass.

Then I would work up from there.
>Skrillex
>Full Bass
no. This is full bass
Well, I remember him mentioning Skrillix and Doctor P, but other than that I don't really recall
You can probably start with Mt Eden Dubstep and maybe branch off with stuff like Rusko and Flux Pavilion?
I'm not too experienced in developing taste patterns in this style of music.
All this really depends on what sort of music you listen to. The "brostep" your boyfriend listens to is pretty much like the electronic equivalent of metal in that it's rather noisy and might take some time in getting used to.

If you don't like it, then you simply don't like it. Maybe you two could find a different genre that you both enjoy listening to?

Also I don't listen to much dubstep, but I can try to help.

EDIT: @Ramunesun: Right, sorry about that. I meant mostly bass? ...fine. Generic Dubstep. ^_^
