BasilMarket Reset Early Early Info
Greetings Basilers! I hope you're having a great summer!
tl;dr: big basil "reset" coming soon-ish. Responsive!
In the interest of keeping you all informed, I'd like to give an extended heads up about a relatively big site reset that's coming. There's no ETA as of yet, so you can expect another update or two before it goes live.
**Why?
BasilMarket will be 10 years old very soon. That's not just the community, but the "engine" that powers and enables the community too. Over the years we have tried a lot of ideas and features, some have stuck, some haven't and some are no longer in use. As a result, the site needs a serious clean up. Actually, it needs to be stripped back to the foundation and rebuilt.
**Goals
My goals are to make something which is fun, functional, efficient and secure. Ten years is a long time to acquire an overwhelming array of menu options, site features and complexity that makes the site less fun, less functional, less efficient and insecure.

I've actually been hustling on this for a good while now on our sister site [url=http://www.maplestory2.tv]MS2.tv[/url]. If you want to see how BM will function with the reset, have a look there (on desktop AND mobile). But please keep in mind - the theme has not been decided, nor have all of the features that will stick around.
**What is a BasilMarket?
BM used to be about the auctions. But imho, the site has an incredible community and insanely impressive art / screens / videos being shared. I am constantly blown away by the level of artwork that people share, and similarly impressed by the level of community. None of the important stuff is going away - MS data, forums, screens, videos, stories. But I will be trimming cruft and moving things to wiki's so you can all help with updating (for example).
This is all just a preview with some early info. Stay tuned for more as we get closer to the reset day.
It's been great to have you all on board for the last 10 years, I look forward to the next 10!

I like basil just the way it is.
You at first had me scared that all the old images/videos/posts were getting deleted since I look through them all the time, but I'm insanely glad it's not.

Wow. Almost 10 years old... I first played Maple in Oct '06. Crazy. That's almost 9 years ago.
I've been gone from Basil for a while, mostly because my forum of choice has become r/nba and because of med school apps, but it's awesome to see that the Basil and Maple communities are still alive. Even if I don't play Maple anymore, it was still a huge part of my life from 7th-8th grade, and I have some awesome memories from playing.

Except that they are. Basil Market is a mess not unlike Generation I Pokemon games. Its engine is outdated and there are lots of glitches and redundant data.

OK whew all I ask is old screens/forum/etc not be deleted because its always a shame when we lose the good stuff.
Does this mean Basilmarket will finally cooperate with Google? I've noticed that, due to Basilmarket's non-standard website format, Google can not properly list pages date-wise. That is, you'll try to get pages from the past year, and Google will list pages with dates within the year. However, the actual posts they go to are years old. I assumed this was because Google doesn't know where the page date information is, so dates are relative to the last time the page was modified - which can include small changes to any part of the page, even if it doesn't relate to the actual post.
[b]Edit:[/b] Going to try to summarize the above: When the pages change in any small way, Google updates the page's stored date, believing there has been new activity on the page. This means that pages from years ago can be listed as recently modified pages for any small reason. At least, this is what I believe is the reason Google can not search Basilmarket correctly for new posts.
Would the new layout of Basilmarket be optimized for search engine's to properly index pages in such ways? There are accepted methods of page formatting which should help.
Will people be able to put their character under thunder breaker?
Also, Mihile's skills are missing.
Note: I think that removing the report button after suspensions is counter productive if you can look into that.
The think I'm mostly looking for is updated up to date database and toturials guides

Niiiiiice. I'm definitely looking forward to the site revamp. I'm an old '05 Basil potato here so it's always nice seeing how the site chooses to progress.
I do miss the auction community, though. It was good whilst it lasted.
@mrbasil oh I'm just messing with you. I know there will always be a little bit of everything. If anything, I think you showing your face around more could help this site be even better than it is currently. of course, you're probably busy with other projects and such.. maybe a faster way to get through the ticket system / a response system so we know things are actually being looked into?

Regardless, I seem to always get the same response. So I'm going to cut this short and end the "argument" here. I do not wish for this to go for a few pages to result in another suspension.

I'm liking it a lot more over our old set which were very vague since over time the community changed and the targeted audience as well. Well done.

Aside from what you say to @wall. There are times I feel like I am suspended for something that I say is true. I believe I am free to voice my opinion as well as state things that actual factual. Some times I feel like I am suspended out of spite and disagreement.

[b]Note:[/b] You mentioned fair treatment. I don't mind my suspension as much as me getting suspended for this and other people getting away with "trolling" threads night and day. If you have anything to say about that, I would like to hear it. I'll gladly take my suspension if it's well-deserved, but if we're talking about fair treatment suspension regarding "actual" trolling attempts should [b]also[/b] be deleted/removed and the other user should be suspended as well. However, I see multiple threads from same user through out the day.
This is extremely helpful. Also the way I phrased and voiced it should lead people to stray away from committing the act. Mods my not agree with what I said and that is completely okay but I don't believe I deserved a suspension. Another thing is that what I said had no limiting factors/censorship, I merely stated my thoughts with some factual statements and submitted them. There was no trolling what-so-ever involved. I was completely serious.
On other note, being suspended with vague comments does not help me progress as a person. A simple pm with a warning or discussing it with me personally would be more productive.
As of now, I simply lurked and post only when I feel necessary because I do not wish to trigger another suspension.

Equal treatment for everyone.[/b] If you haven't seen from my posts, I'm all about equal treatment in-game and out of game and even here on the forums. I'm a BasilMarket veteran, I know how it works around here but I still feel treated as a clueless child.

Aside from this, I've been looking forward to a BasilMarket revamp for some time now. If you wish for assistance, feel free to contact me. I have submitted some suggestion notes prior but if you wish to see them again or hear more, shoot me a PM. I will not turn down you down for my assistance[as I am for the bettering of this site] but I would like to say that the suspension system we have currently isn't working out and I submitted something about this prior.
Sorry for the rant; I guess I have grown bitter on certain "things" on this site but that won't effect me from helping other players/people out.

The problem is, being helpful sometimes does NOT give you, or anyone, a free license to troll whenever you want.
Just because you've shown you can be helpful doesn't mean you can start off-topic arguments in the middle of someone else's thread and continue it for several pages of back and forth off-topic arguing over several days like your last suspension was. Just like it said on one of the suspensions.
@superswift12: thank you, but I don't think that that's something I'll be working on.
@marilanna: the main content will stay (forums, etc that I listed in my OP), it's mainly the functionality / look that will be getting a refresh.
By "reset," do you mean that a lot of old threads will get cleaned up and deleted? Or just that Basil is getting a brand new look?

@xylyls: if you look any group of 100, 1000 or 10k people you will always get some bad apples. The interesting thing is that some people start out as trolls, stick around and become helpful and revered members. But this community nor any other will ever have 100% compatibility with your (nor my) concept of greatness. We all come here for different reasons, so it's to be expected that we all walk away with different impressions. Despite all the bumps, imho, the good has always significantly outweighed the bad. If you disagree, I'd love to hear your constructive feedback on how you think we can improve things?

@mrbasil Please move the character skill pages to a wiki so that the community can update them. Its pretty annoying to find old skill lists when I am trying to pick a new job to make
