8GB RAM (2.92GB Usable)

Ok, so I've had this issue for a while, called Tech Support, they literally told me to bring it back to the shop, which I did and they weren't able to do anything so I'm turning to you guys. Anyways...

Currently, I have 8GB DDR3 @ 1066 MHz of Memory installed (2x4GB), I'm running a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit and I can only use 2.92GB of it.

Can anyone assist me by telling me how I can utilize the whole 8GB? Thanks!

Also, I tried installing a 4GB DDR3 @ 1066 MHz of Memory (2x2GB), same thing, 2.92GB was usable.

You're welcome. And it's no trouble at all.

But since I mentioned it and still didn't know if you have done it or not, have you try to do that remapping memory thing I mentioned? If your Asus don't have that option, then you may need to find a BIOS update on the Asus download support area, download that latest BIOS update, and flash your BIOS (do research on this please, if you are going to do it yourself, as it can make your computer inoperable. Also, make sure it running power from the wall rather than the battery). If everything goes well and since your RAM is being shared, you should have had around 6.9GB of usable memory.

Ah, I see. Thank you, Qwan and iProxD, and sorry for the trouble. I'll try and think of something to do about it..
And ya, the Gfx card is integrated.

I assumed his video shared, hence the weird 2.92GB. You'll need to tweak it to take in all 8 GBs.
Your motherboard probably does not support the 8GB.
His BIOS recognize up to 8GB being installed, so it could support 8GB. To further back that up, this is the laptop he got and it supports up to 8GB max base on the specifications.

"The primary reason is that the motherboard supplier did not program the BIOS correctly to automatically remap memory above the 4GB mark. In the AMI BIOS' utilized by ASUS and ASRock, among others, there is a Memory Remapping option in the BIOS setup screen that needs to be enabled on early BIOS releases. Later BIOS releases automatically enable this feature if more than 4GB of memory is detected at POST. So the recommended solution is to update your BIOS to the latest release if this is a problem in your system. "

The limitation is 4GB because of the BIOS. His usable memory is even lower because of his integrated graphics is sharing memory from his system RAM.

Take account into your hardware. Your motherboard probably does not support the 8GB.

Did you upgrade the Ram yourself? Or was it manufacturer default/upgraded

Have you try to find the option like Remap Memory, Memory Remap, or whatever? If there's an tab/menu for it, it's likely under "Advanced".

Asus U52F - Laptop.

I've actually went through the BIOS, it recognizes it and states I have 8192MB Memory installed.

What's the brand and model of your computer? I believe you need to go into the BIOS of your computer and enable something called Memory remapping.
