Help with my 3ds Xl screen

I've tried posting on various forums with no straight answers, so I thought I'd try here.
I've been having problems with my 3ds screen recently, it looks like this gray and blue line

If it's too hard to tell from the image, there's a grey vertical line towards the right of the screen and blue horizontal line near the bottom. They used to disappear if I waited long enough, but now they seem to be permanently there. I haven't dropped my DS and any scratches on it are purely cosmetic

Could anyone tell me what's possibly wrong with it? I just wanna get some theories before I ultimately (probably) will send it off to nintendo to get fixed (which I'm reluctant to do since the appraisal fee alone is $25). It could be costing me $70+ to fix which wouldn't be so bad, if only I didn't wanna trade this in for the "new" nintendo 3ds -sigh-

Anyway, any help would be appreciated <3

This is the console coming out in australia in november: "new" nintendo 3ds.

This is precisely why naming a new console "New Nintendo 3DS" was a horrible decision.
"Hi can I get a New 3DS?"
"Sure, here you go"
"No no, I mean a New New 3DS, not a New 3DS."

@QuackOutLoud the lines are always visible, but sometimes they change colours a bit with the pixels.

@Capricious I just meant to trade my 3ds in for store credit so I can buy the new one at a discounted price. At my local store it's worth around $200 to trade in, but it'll probably drop once the new one is released.

Basically the difference is a faster cpu - so better downloading and connectivity- the changing theme plates, the c stick and it will function with amiibos without any added accessories. Hopefully I'll be able to play Smash online without lagging on it

So, hopefully I can find somewhere local to fix it >< Thanks for the comments

i have this issue on my regular 3ds it at some point complete turned black(no lines) i decided to open it and found that the cable screen connector had broken and that it wasnt properly lined up i managed to connect it using electrical tape but this is a temporary fix as the person above said see if u can take it to a local fix it shop shouldn't cost much

I believe that it's a screen problem. A friend of mine had a similar issue, but it was just one blue line across the lower portion of the upper screen. Sadly, I don't know if she ever got it fixed, because she received a 3DS XL as a gift shortly after.

Instead of sending it in to Nintendo, why not check to see if there are any local "fix-it" shops in your area? Maybe they can provide you a free appraisal and possibly a lower repair cost.

Also, I'm sorry, but could you please explain what you mean by trading your current 3DS in for the new one? Is there some sort of promotion/deal going on for that? o.o I'd like to get in on that...

Do those lines appear on any kind of game/home screen?
Do the lines replace the pixels of what is supposed to show there all the time?
lt sounds like a screen problem, so you might have to send it off to Nintendo.
