The hellban issue

As most of basil already knows, a lot of people have been hellbanned and are upset about it. I've been seeing people saying "they're all at fault," or "we should send tickets so they unban us," etc. Let me explain something though. Being hellbanned is simply trade blocked, hellban is the term the Maplestory community came up with. It does not mean you are banned (or will be), nor does it mean you will never be able to trade again. It's simply a temporary measure Nexon takes in situations like this to get things figured out faster.

There have been illegitimate mesos and mounts floating around and they are trying to get to the bottom of it, now that they fixed the method used. It's harder to trace all of it if the people whose hands passed it along are still doing more trades while they're trying to investigate. Simply put, trade blocking people helps simplify the process. Like when a crime happens in a room full of people, you keep all of the people there until you can figure it out, or else you risk letting the culprit(s) get away, hiding among the innocent. Same concept.

So no, they aren't saying everyone that's trade blocked did something wrong, but that they are merely part of the process of fixing as much of this as possible. So hopefully this stops some of the complaints that makes this sound permanent. As unfortunate as it is, that so many are temporarily trade blocked, there's not much you can do but wait it out until Nexon gives us an update.

@iGotPlayed I honestly have no clue what Nexon's criteria for who did/didn't get hellbanned was. I was under the impression that it was anyone who made a sizable amount of mesos recently or had touched a mount (mounts were part of the issue). But given what you're saying, I really have no clue.

If this is for quarantine purposes, I would assume anyone who's traded more than they usually do should be in this hell ban jam? If so, can you please give me an insight on why
is it that Nexon seem to have banned only the pros? I mean 99% of the people I know who got trade blocked are either godlies or big time merchants. And a lot of them seem to
haven't been playing much the day the hack got released or a few days before that. 2 or 3 days ago, I bought a claw for 10b in pure meso ~~ I was 2b short in pure meso and
I have a friend who isn't well off but I promised to pay with interest in a week so he loaned me meso. I traded my claw seller 8b pure (2b ea in different accounts) and my friend traded him another 2b. The claw seller then gave me my claw. Result? Claw seller and I got banned and my friend (thank God though!) is scratch free. Some of Windia's most
well known legit merchants/godlies have also been trade blocked, a lot of them claiming to not have sold/bought anything as early as Teusday and yet I know people who's done
this exploit long before it went public who are not banned on their little mules. It's as if, Nexon's only criteria for falling into the ~to be trade blocked~ category is being rich irregardless of weather you've logged in or even traded suspicious amounts the past few days. I feel that this is unfair ~~ can someone please enlighten me on this. ty
@Tesite: Oh I recently traded an item for over max so maybe that is the problem?
That most likely was the issue.

@imnotahippy Haha, I'd say that's an accurate analogy. I agree though, Nexon should put an in-game notice. They rely too much on everyone checking the website for every single change they do. Some people avoid the site like the plague so that would definitely be confusing.

@xTeamx People weren't "auto-banned" they just can't drop or trade anything or set up a shop. It's more related to people who made meso trades during the exploit and not the amount of money they have.

@Marceaux lol didn't read what I said I see. Yes, "hellbanned" players will be unbanned later on. It's temporary unless Nexon finds something you did suspicious, but for 99% of the people that will likely not be the case.

@MeMagicalPie: Do you know if the innocently banned players will be unhellbanned? Is it temporary?
Is this true? Anyone with over max was auto hell banned? I find this ridiculous.

Can someone explain why they didn't just roll back? I'm so confused
Its not true. I have over max and didn't get hellbanned, it seems to be affecting people who traded item/s for meso's in some form.

@marceaux: because they want to ban the ones responsible and figure out how they did it
The reason why it is called Hell Ban to my understanding is because even though you can log in, you are able to do next to nothing (Even train when pots run out) and it feels like hell since you can play and move around, yet you are extremely limited.
Those lucky henehoes! They can continue doing everything they normally do even if they get hellbanned!

You can buy pots while hellbanned.

@Liddy: I sent mine under this---

Category: Game Related (MapleStory)
Sub-Category: Account Specific Issues
Issue Classification: Other

If you check my character and check some of my latest posts, you'll see the ticket and response from Nexon.
@ox0Shad0w0xo: I hope so as well, but I already sent a ticket and they already responded. Their response basically is this:

Oh, we don't care. We're busy, but buy more NX please.
What did you send your ticket under? bans? or Account help? I sent mine under account help and I have not recieved a reply... and this was not longer after the maintenance

@imshocute well when this happened to me I spoke to a friend... and the game was telling me to contact support, so I did... How does that make me in the wrong?

flooding the ticket system over something that is temporary? smart thinking. now all other ticket issues are swept away from this wave of crap that will get the same reply "we are dealing with the issue, sit your ass down".

The thing is, players who got hellbanned cannot even open the hot day box. LOL

@shyally Not saying it's right, just made the thread because a lot of people seem to be panicking due to the term "hellban" having the word ban in it. Also, the exploit was a "triple threat" so to speak. It introduced thousands of mounts, trillions of mesos, and free exp. The exp part is negligible, but the amount of mesos introduced far exceeds what botters bring in.

@CherryTigers Yeah that part sucks, hopefully Nexon is nice enough to extend your shops or something. Just hoping this thread eases some of the panic (and the numerous threads asking why).

@dlink123451 Yes, it's possible, although that all depends on Nexon.

That's a great side of the story but many of us got screwed over due to hellban...

-spends $16 on NX hired merchants-
-hell ban-

-$16 left to expire-

The thing is, the reasons why Nexon is doing it doesn't make it alright. At the end of the day innocent people who haven't done anything wrong are unable to play the game properly. Yes, it's better than being banned, but that doesn't mean it's "fine" -- it's just not the worst thing they could have done.

Hackers (botters) introduce billions of meso into the economy every day. The illegitimate meso that was introduced from this incident may raise prices a little, but I doubt the prices would remain high for very long. It's wrong to cripple innocent people just to prevent a temporary price rise in the economy.

As for the dragon mounts and anything that was duplicated: Nexon should have just deleted the duplicated items during the server check. History shows they have that ability, so why didn't they just do that and call it a day?
