For those wanting to play ArcheAge

The open beta and release are right around the corner now. Last night at PAX, Trion announced the open beta and launch dates http://www.archeagegame.com/en/news/2014/08/archeage-schedule-announcement/

I know some people were bummed they couldn't get an invite or a beta key into closed beta (I got invited into CB3), so now everyone has a chance to try it before they wipe everything and prepare for the head start and release. It will be free to play with the option of subscribing per month. I love that you can mix and match classes (it's not great for pvp but you could be a warrior, mage, and archer all in one if you wanted), and there's so much to do once you reach more areas. And flying around on gliders is fun too.

For those that don't know much about the game, here's a few videos.

Here is a brief overview of the class and combo systems (from the Alpha, so there's passive skills now that aren't in the video)

Large scale pvp (with boats)

I for one, am excited about the release. What about you guys?

Played around 400 hours on the alpha. Flipping good. Can't wait for the head start.

Yeah, free to play, with the option of paying for a premium membership.

Restrictions on free accounts are that they can't buy unclaimed land (they can buy land from another player though), and they don't get as much labor point as paid players. And labor points are basically used for crafting, mining, building, revealing unidentified equipment, etc. Similar in a way to the fatigue system on maple. In the last closed beta free players got 5 labor per 5 minutes and 0 offline and paid got 10 labor per 5 minutes and 5 per 5 minutes while offline, but they said they blan on making it more fair for free players

@ox0Shad0w0xo: Oh, if this is true I guess I'll give it a go then.

@roy5577 It does look p2w a little bit, but from the looks of it Trion is actually trying to make it fair for free players balance wise. Let's hope they don't go the Nexon route lol.

@AbsymalTorment Well paying is optional. So why would you spring for the most expensive beta pack when you aren't even sure if you want to play the game? Just try it out for free unless you really want all the stuff in the Archeum pack ($75 worth of cash shop currency and 3 months worth of paid status, rumored to be $15 a month, is why they jacked up the price for that so much).

@xDracius I'm actually the opposite, I love the combat, but I'm not too into the building houses and farming aspect even though it's important for making money lol

@kcwt You can actually. My C drive doesn't have a lot of space either (150 GB compared to 750 GB on the D drive). When you install Glyph you can change the installation folder for Glyph and the installation folder for whichever Trion game you install with Glyph. What I did was I went to "browse" when it asked where to install and created new folders matching the same path it was going to use on my C drive. Program FilesGlyphGamesArcheAgeBeta and it installed and it runs fine.

Don't have enough room in my C drive T~T
Waiting until it can be run from another drive (unless it already can and I was unaware)

Not a huge fan of the combat I'll admit, but I really hope those other features they're toting are worth.

Why should I play this game? Why should I pay $150 for the pack?

You actually can use the mouse for camera movements if you change the settings. And you can change it so that you move where you click (although it is kind of annoying because you have to double click every time). The controls bothered me at first too though, I will admit. Moving the camera with the keyboard moves it at set intervals instead of slowly turning, which sucks. Was a lot better once I got the mouse camera controls down though.

Might be worth testing it out again when open beta starts since your level 10 will still be there for that, but will be gone once it goes live.

so did you play for like a split second? did you bother to check game settings? or?
Because you sure as hell can use the mouse to control the camera.
Is the free member to premium/patron member gap still huge? I understand housing and farms should be premium, but do free members still get ridiculously low labor points? You literally can't do any crafting because of the amount of labor points you get as a free member.
They said they were fixing the labor issue after the last closed beta, but I don't know exactly what they are going to do about it. They were vague about the actual change that would be made to the system, but I did see mention of opening coinpurses no longer needing labor. Which is great because I reached a point where I had 400 labor worth of coinpurses in just a few days lol.
