liquid water is a requirement for supporting life (as we know it). NASA's approach to the search for extraterrestrial life is literally "follow the water"

on top of that though, we know that mars once harbored a LOT of water, but we don't know what *happened* aside from some kind of catastrophic climate change
Mars electromagnetic field became weak for whatever reason, and the planet was bombarded by solar radiation that stripped the planet of its lighter molecules such as water. How the field weaken is unknown, but it has something to do with internal rotation of tbe liquid core.

This just confirms it.

Well we have water here too so I don't see what the big deal is.
The big deal is that wherever we find water on Earth, we find life. If this holds true for Mars then it's likely there are microorganisms currently presiding on Mars. Such a discovery would be the first ever contact with alien life. It would also have huge ramifications, finding life on one of Earth's closest planets would disprove notions that Earth is unique in the development life and would further strengthen the theory that the universe is teeming with life. The historical/political/religious/scientific significance is extraordinary and unprecedented.
what do u mean it's old? you had proof there was water on mars before nasa did?
i think what he means is that this information was already established, for decades we knew/speculated that Mars had water at some point in its past, even a few years ago (2009) we found possible evidence that Mars has some water in present day (2009), so saying that water has been found on mars isnt new, thats like saying Pluto still isn't a planet.
