Phantom

How are phantoms defenses?

Haven't really played my phantom after getting him to lv 120, and now that i hit lv 200 on my f/p, i figured id start a co-main. It's between bishop, phantom, WH, shad, and BaM. all of them are at least lv 100 but i havent really played them in a long time.

Anyways, one of the things i'm looking for in a co-main is how tanky they are, because i'm not trying to die in 2-3 hits of 8k dmg.
Can they take hits? cause i heard from someone that they are the most fragile of all theives

@Arazthoru: True to an extent, i wonder how much blaster beats mille+fc by.
@Arazthoru For me i like it because 60% extra dmg for mille when i have to use mille on bosses that you have to be mobile for. I could use RF but i think because of the hyper buffs to mille you would be doing less dps when rf then with Mille+FC. Plus it adds to your carte dmg as well.
dont get me bad but Arrow Blaster>Milles+FC>Rapid Fire, I give you the point to use milles+FC when you hace to kill a very mobile boss, still in places like magnus/hillia or RA bosses, you can just place a blaster turret try to hit with blaster normal, then if the boss moves out of the range of the turret place another.
Milles hypers are good but I just use milles to grind/mobbing, any 1v1 blaster all the way cuz is A LOT faster than milles

@tzionmesil
only change the fact 1/100 is kinda irrealistic I would say 1/15, high end areas are the ones that hit hard with high accuracy ...
also I still dont get why ppl keep with final cut its useless with all the skill you can steal
need a dmg skill for 4th job use arrow platter, some buff from 2nd-3rd job there are a lot of options, CO,HB,any heal skill etc etc
final cut would be nice if the rest of the explorers skills sucked but they dont

Kinda like Dual Blades, Phantoms rely on avoid/dodge chance on avoiding damage. However, like Dual Blades again, they're pretty squishy like we are in terms of defense. In general, you can either dodge or take most hits, but the stronger stuff may make you need to pot every 1 or 2 hits. You can also steal defensive skills, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really, REALLY need to.
Use Magic guard, Dark Clarity, cross surge and final cut.
Dark clarity has the same at increase as rage and channel karma but you can stack attack potions with it.
For me its enough to survive attacks from bosses like madman ranmaru.
Sigh...you can stack potions with rage too. Also, rage has 30% damage reduction+500% damage reflection.

You should co-main another character with link skills so when you get them to 210, you get more benefits for your main

So yea, Phantom is your best choice.

Meso Guard/Magic Guard on a Phantom is enough. Phantoms don't even take much damage and with high avoid and dodge skills you will avoid most of the time.
I think getting every single defensive skills is a bit too much. Unless you want to become 100% supportive Phantom instead of attacking but still you don't need all those defensive skills.

Mesoguard or Magic Guard, Hyper Body, Advance Bless

@riceypinoy: if you wanted to be really tanks, probably iron body first job, and any combination of heal, hb, adv bless, meso guard, rage, holy magic shell, angel ray, holy fountain(bishop thingy) etc

You would steal iron body, meso guard, and hyperbody if you want to be tanky.

But you don't need to since rage has 30% damage reduction which is good enough and phantoms rarely get hit.
To optimise damage, the only real tankiness is from magic guard and our high avoid. You can make them as tanks as you want with the stolen skills but you would lose out on a lot of damage
what exactly would be the best stolen skill for tankiness? wouldnt it be rage or meso guard in 2nd job? if thats the case, what exactly are you giving up for damage? cause iirc, rage has some defense properties now, and meso guard got moved to 2nd job

sorry if this is a nub question, not really familiar classes other than the main 3 mages

Out of the classes that you listed, I think a Battle Mages for a co-main would be best for you. Your main is a magician, and Battle Mages are pretty tanky.
