Nexon and clarity the untold explanations pt1

Damage Formulas:

As you probably know already maplestory is a big game with a lot of moving parts. A ton of systems and a ton of damage formulas that aren't explained to the average or even experienced players.
Do you now the difference between % total dmg and % w.atk? and there is just % dmg. If you know that answer that's great but for a lot players they don't know and only believe word of mouth or some unofficial explanation. Why hasn't nexon or the maplestory team officially clarified these systems? How are players who are spending hundreds on cubes suppose to know what they are aiming for? I'm not asking for nexon to go build character guides or tell us what to build, that's for the community to figure out but these systems and formulas aren't properly explained to the average user. The other day I told my guild mate that he needs to build %ATT on his weapon and have total damage on everything else, I can only say I think I'm right but I have no real way of explaining it; just purely mixed with word of mouth and experience.

Soon enough maplestory will have an interactive dps/etc spread sheet within the actual game as well.

To be fair, the universe didn't give us an official list of formulas and constants. They were all derived or observed so the same applies here There are explanations of the formulas/systems by other players which analyzes efficiency (that's where we get the "%atk>%TD for most player" argument)

Most of this stuff can be done intuitively, only exception would be the %Total damage thing since the average player doesn't know about it adding to %boss when attacking bosses

It's all part of the adventure to reach these knowledgeable communities. Communication and interaction is a key component of MMORPG. I do agree that some things need to be more clear but there are pros to keeping things a mystery.

Though it should be noted that transparency seems to be a key item for them currently at KMS with recent patches rewording skill descriptions to have more coherency.

[quote=masterobert]We do know. If you look in the formula, you'll notice that total damage behaves like boss%. That's why you don't want to keep total damage because you can get a lot more from boss%. I would recommend going for boss on main potential and attack% on bonus potential, ignore defense on emblem. You should have somewhere around 250% boss, 90% ignore defense, and the rest attack%.

Where does one even acquire an emblem?
