Dog Alive Without Its Body

Am I the only one who finds this extremely disturbing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSrIkUXwsNk

>>> Yes it is real. It's a documentary called "Experiments in the Revival of Organisms" made in 1940.

It bothers me just with the fact that an animal was used.
&Just thinking about it, the only thing that poor dog could do was just stay there :'I
Can't run, or eat, or play :'/
I believe in the idea that once a living organism is dead, it should remain that way. Preserving or resurrecting in any way is just beyond my limits, especially something like this. I could honestly say I was shocked and disgusted by this video, but being an experiment conducted by Russian scientists I wasn't overly surprised as I was disgusted.

It is dead. Keep it that way.
Although I do agree with you, the dog was alive before and the head was surgically detached afterwards, just pointing that out even though I believe this experiment to be false.
The dog moves, how? It can't really. It's head isn't connected to anything but tubes, it shouldn't be able to move. They also don't show multiple views of it.
It's not alive. Given this is on the sixth page someone probably already said it. The circulation of certain liquids through the head cause muscle contractions and movement but it's not really alive.
It was alive. The dog had a body, it was just hidden under the table. It can't move like that without a neck.

What I find slightly disturbing is the heart face emote next to the incredibly depressing sounding topic title.

Why experiment something like this when the answer is freakin obvious......
R.I.P. and let the human hwo did that to him/her burn in hell.

I wont even look at it. No use to traumatize myself with it. I love my dog and don't need to see a dog mutilated this way.
LOl what's wrong with you. You rather have people die then pets? Seriously, I think both are evil and sick but choosing a pet over a human being is pretty sad.
it kind of true, i mean it would be helpful if we try it on a human, well a suicider since their gonna die, we can't progess unless we have a few sacifice here and there
after watching 3 seconds of that, it reminded me of all those body-less heads in futurama xD
lol I thought the same thing

OT: The video was a little disturbing, although a more recent version of this experiment is one where they hooked up a mouse's brain to a robot and the robot would move around and react like a mouse would. As in the robot would move around and be aware of its surroundings, when the only thing controlling it was a mouse's brain. That experiment could be very useful to the development of cyborgs someday. Knowing how to keep a head (or brain more specifically) without a body is an important step to incorporating an all out bionic body.

On a side note though, I don't doubt that the science of this is possible but the fact the dog was able to move its entire head raises questions for me. It reminds me a bit of those myths about how you're still alive for a bit after getting your head cut off by a guillotine, and they'd ask you to blink as much as you could before you died. If this is an actual video then it must've been recorded shortly after the removed the head from the dog's body, otherwise I don't think the dog would've been capable of that much movement
i think the real dog head's fake.
it's neck moves which would need dem other bonez.
it also never shows a side view.
and how exactly do they keep it from bleeding to death in the first place?
how is it fake? it do-able, it just not humane, now, back than no
idk it won't show the side view
cryogenic it inorder to save it and keep it alive

Whoa, this video is still around? For some reason I'd think it would be flagged and removed. I remember seeing it back in high school.

From reading the comments beneath the video, I doubt this experiment actually has merit. However, it still fascinates me.

There's nothing that shows it's actually alive.
How do you move your head without a neck?

Reply December 16, 2011 - edited

@Pookiemookie: It's physically impossible. I semi-believed it when I saw ONLY tongue moving. Once the head was moving, I realized there had to be strings attached to it or something.
