Any Out Of State College Students?

I'm going from Washington to Colorado in August for College, woohoo no more rain 300+ days a year.

Was curious if anybody else here is an out of state student or was when they were in college. Did you have friends with you or did you not know anybody when you arrived? How long did it take you to adjust to life there?

I'm technically staying in state but my school is a 13 hour drive from where I live now and it never rains here and over there it rains a ton so that's gonna be nice

I live in Illinois and I'm going to the University of Miami in the fall. I know one other kid going there, but not that well. I'm not really too worried about making friends down there though

Agree with post above^ I'm not even from the US and I made tons of friends despite being ESL

Since you are in Colorado, GO SKIING! I spent my last spring break there and it was AWESOME.

I'm from Brooklyn, New York and spent 1.25 years at the University of Michigan. Michigan is a great school that attracts all types of people -- people from Michigan, people from other parts of America, and definitely people from other countries.

I was socially awkward and obese when I started fresh out of all-male, Catholic high school, so I didn't really get close with anyone. Actually, the final decision in my college selection was between Michigan and Penn State. A lot of kids from my high school were going to Penn State, so I chose Michigan.

Now I go to a state school in New York (Stony Brook) and have all sorts of friends. My best friend there is from Pakistan.

It's very easy to make friends in college. Sure, if you're not from the same state as the one where the college is located, you won't have any high school friends, but who cares? There are literally thousands of other potential friends.

Now for adjusting, it could vary. How much do you care about your family? I didn't care about mine at all and was glad to be a 13 hour drive away from them. But some people were definitely homesick. How about weather? In New York City, the snow falls once, it's cleaned, and that's that. Michigan has constant snowfall for like 2 months. It made me hate snow.

Just things to consider. You'll have lots of fun though. Like you, people will be eager to make friends and they'll come with ease. :^)
