the ambition here in your complicated landscape is awesomee, but i think there isn't much overall balance and unity to the picture's color scheme?
when you put such different, vivid colors everywhere without incorporating them elsewhere to tie things together it looks chaotic...
just take things slow when you're coloring and adjusting those brightness/contrast/saturation levels (adjust them bit by bit!), think about how you can make the colors all look nice and appealing as a whole. and keep in mind that whatever colors you use in a sky this bright, should be reflecting upon the landscape and people at least a little since it's a widespread source of light...that's probably the main reason why it seems to lack unity in color..

Your absolutely right in what you say and there is no shame in that. However I don't think many realize this but the focus of this picture is based on Maplestory not real life. For the sky that people comment on. when you go to the Temple of Time in the game you see that the sky is blue, but when you enter the 1st passage door into future Hensey That is where the sky changes into a more purple slightly pinkish tone in which your suppose to get the sense that there's something above and beyond the horizon. I'll admit that the clouds are more brighter than what i wanted, but its because there are 2 light sources. A more faint but shining from above that clouds to add to the idea that something is above "beyond the boundary"
Well even if Maplestory is a fantasy realm, most artwork in games is based on reality. Especially basic stuff like skies. A factor we really have to keep in mind when saying "The first passage is this colour and then the sky changes in the second one" is that you're kind of traveling in time when moving between the ToT and future Henesys.

Either way, it's just something to consider for next time. Good luck with future work and keep it up!

It took me a moment to figure out what it was about the colours that bothered me a little, but I figured it out. Let's use some references!

Near the sun you have orange/yellow. That's fine. That's a proper sunset/sunrise colour. Then after that you have the brightest blue I can imagine for the sky. Which you only kind of have during a sunny day. Somewhere around the middle of the day. Seeing as the sun is either setting or rising, there shouldn't be a midday blue colour in the sky. Considering you started off with orange and yellow, why not go for a nice Lion king sunrise? And then finally if you look at all the images, you will also notice how none of the clouds are actually pure white. When do you have white clouds? When it's the middle of the day!

Don't get me wrong or anything, you did a good job. But you really need to look at real life references rather than drawing what you think is right. There's no shame in having an example to help you out. So maybe try it next time ^^?

Could be GREAT cover art for a Trance song on youtube. (First thing that went through my mind while listening to Gareth Emery)

Oh nice. Your art is improving recently, though the girl hugging the guy and their faces look a little awkward. The wings also look a little weird. Other than that, great work. I like how bright the sky is.
EDIT: As a side note, how long did this take you?

Paint tool sai or photoshop (any ver.)
They are both good in their own way. Paint Tool SAI is a great software to draw lineart with, especially if you have a tablet. Photoshop is used for editing or adding effects such as filters. You can still draw lineart in Photoshop too.

Sorry if I'm not able to answer everyone's questions. I don't spend a lot of my time on basilmarket. I've been doing a ton of traditional art all my life, but lately I've been getting more into the digital art media for my future career. Paint tool Sai is a very simple program to use but its still complicated for me to get use to the style of drawing on a computer rather than actual paper, so yes I did mess up a lot in this picture. I consider this picture to be more of a practice drawing despite the fact that I spent 17hrs on it. What I was trying to do was test out the new techniques I learn from those countless videos I watched: brightness and contrast/ luminous/ hue saturation/ textiles/ overlays/ etc. I know, I have a very bad habit of over exploiting colors in which I'm trying not to do

My style of art is based on Anime/ landscapes/ colors and where I'm trying to get to is between luluseason and redjuice.

Link to larger size picture: http://taihido.deviantart.com/art/MapleStory-Ossyria-426490898

Unfortunately I had to shrink down this picture a lot for basil to be able to accept it because of its large scale so a lot of small detail was lost.

Omg, do you have any other drawings like this? I should make this my desktop background. It'll make my day, everyday.

You have an amazing concept of colors and drawing landscapes. My only issue is how small the trees look from this angle (Unless they're supposed to be like that?)

I really like this though.

A bit too saturated and the pink sky at the very top doesn't do it for me. The formation of the clouds also makes no sense when taking the landscape into consideration. Otherwise good. 5/10 and a thumb up.
