Where are you now since 5 years ago?

5 years ago, I was single, graduating high school and had no idea where I was going or what I'm doing in the future.

Now I've been happily together with my girlfriend for 4 years, graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Animation and is currently working for a diploma in Web Design, and I have plans to start my own little art shop, work on my illustration skills, and start a REALLY small game company with my two best friends.

How are you all? :]
Ah man. Right on time with this one. Five years ago I was still in high school, embodying the word doofus. Today I am a relatively handsome, mechanical engineering major with, hopefully after my final today, a 4.0 GPA to show for a decade of systematic, educational neglect. Feels good, man. In terms of dating, I am an engineering student. I go on a date with physics every weekend. Really though, I do alright.
Hey, you're in mechanical too! (with double my GPA because I'm super lazy...)

Are you finishing up 3rd year too, and how do you find it so far?

Five years ago.. I was fourteen years would which would mean I was probably a sophomore.
All I remember was my family sheltering and overprotecting me so much that I had no social life outside of school. Maplestory and basilmarket was for the most part my life.

And now I am currently a sophomore at a community college trying to transfer and living a great life I never imagine I would be living if I saw myself now as a kid. And I surprisingly still play Maplestory and go on this website..

Now, I'm a junior in university and I enjoy coming online to be a bum.

It is very le slow. And yes, I am but only halfway through 21.

Closet case, depressed, somehow making honour roll while on two basketball teams. I mostly just remember being extremely introverted and sad.

Now I'm perpetually happy, like i'm smiling 99% of the time. I have a wonderful boyfriend, an awesome job and I like what I'm going to school for. Started working out 8 months ago and I'm looking pretty fit.

@skalz Thanks for the encouragement, the surprising thing is, I don't play maple anymore! Even if I force myself to play, it only lasts for a few seconds before I log off! I have also gone a long period of time without getting angry, or showing any negative emotion! However, there is one situation in school, but once I clear that and get into summer my academic and school life will be restored!

@skalz: I talk to syko and omar nearly every day. Mindstormer is on facebook but he's fairly busy with his life and doesn't have much time for chatting

I'm doing fine. I just need to get off my butt and do something with my life, hah.
Five years ago I was thirteen years old. I was going on the basil IRC and it consumed much of my time. I was good friends with bokuwaomar and syko and mindstormer, and I talked to them a lot.

I still lived with my mother back then, in oregon. I believe my father and sister were still at home, and my parents were still together.

Five years ago If you'd asked me who Mike Shinoda is i'd stare at you blankly, or I might have said 'that one rapper guy from Linkin Park? he's alright'

I was still playing pokemon fairly heavily.

I still loved my mother.

That was a long time ago. :[
Do you still keep in touch with boku, syko and mindstormer? Gosh they were so nice :

I hope you're doing well :[ *hugs*!

2008 or 2009, either or. My years blur.
but good stuff

@timmybitty
Great to hear :] It's nice to see so many comments saying how they've opened up through the years haha. Making connections means a lot in this day and age.

@ronrox1244
Thank you!

@Furry
Contrary to some comments or thoughts, I loved reading all that. It's super inspiring and I'm super happy for your highs and lows, and congratulations on your relationship experience and coming out to your parents. Something that I honestly still have to do, but in my own time and in the right moment..whenever that is for traditional Asian parents.

And hey, looking at all these comments, 5 years is a long time even though it feels sort of like yesterday, the events and all. It's a lot of time for people to change. I personally would've never expected NOT wanting to do animation for my life, getting a job in graphic design or continue schooling after university (I was pretty adamant that I wasn't going to, until within those 5 years I realized how useless my university actually was). And I was expecting to be alone forever, with just my art and maybe a dog to accompany me haha. I also would've never imagined me starting a Youtube channel and being in to it, but hey, this is what keeps life exciting.

Wishing you all the best! :] You and your partner :]

@Splutter
I'd always want to punch myself, reading back to my old writing about my feelings and situations. I was such a little.... poop.

@xoqtprincessxo
Gah, feel better soon!

@Shroomsly
SHROOMY, you were a handsome devil eversince always. WISHING YOU THE BEST ON YOUR EXAM <3 I'm sure you'll be amazing. And pft, engineering... yeahyouneedtogetoutmore.

Ah, let's see. Five years ago, I was five years younger. Right now, I'm in my dorm chugging down atrocious amounts of Spanish black bean and lentil soup that has way too much salt in it, but I have to eat because I have one hell of a sore throat and can't eat anything else.

5 years ago I was an angsty 15-year old. It seems like everyday I fell in love with a different boy and called him my 'soul-mate'. It's actually really funny to go back and read my diary back from 2007~2008.

But at the same time, that's the year where I started to find myself. To grow into something much more. 5 years I started my lifelong journey to find purpose and meaning to my life. It is literally the most important year of my life.

@Furry, I was not calling you out to bully you on it, but I can't promise that the next guy wouldn't. There are just some people that do not care who they terrorize or bully, as long as they get their daily dose of ego inflation they're all set for the day.

Single, quiet, scared and 0 self esteem.

Now I'm going into my 2nd year of University and I'm still single and quiet but talking to people and such are much easier for me. I have more friends now but I still have some trust issues. I have the same close friends as I did 5 years ago. ^^

That was 2008, right? If I remember right, I was during that time where I wasn't playing MS and trying out MMORPGS. I was a fat, annoying student who always slept in class.

Now, well, I wised up in a way, but I'm more lazy than before and still end up with fine grades, extremely skinner than I was before, and less annoying and more of a person to talk to/approach.

lol skalz the only recognizable avatar i've seen on basilmarket.
5 years ago i was an 8th grader just making that awkward transition into hs. Naive and insecure about everything. Constantly looking over my shoulders for ghosts. Was as sheltered as could be by my parents.

Now I just finished my last AP exam and waiting for graduation. Bitter sweet but loving life. Only negative is that I've gotten into a ritual of smoking everyday.
Life good right now. just waiting for college life next year. LSU

edit: Lol idk why but i really like you skalz. No idea why but I have this genuine attraction to you that is neither sexual or quality based. Prob stalked too much profil3

Could be worse

I've also been fortunate enough to be surrounded by a loving and supportive family, and a great group of friends. Honest, there's nothing I can complain about.

Still, not too unhappy with the way things turned out, it could've been a lot worse.
