Extreme lag problems
I've been experience some really bad heavy lag on maple and i have no idea where it's coming from and why it's happening.
The lag usually happens when i go through portals/ teleport, when others or myself are using skills and when im dropping/ picking up stuff.
I've been cleaning and updating my computer, playing maple on its lowest graphics, redownloading maple, redownloading the launcher and nothing has worked so far.
My computer is pretty good and i run ethernet.
I do live and play from Europe tho but I've been able to play without lag in the past.

@solzoriana: Nah, it's not your computer. MapleStory as a whole is heavily unoptimized especially in regards to its coding and game engine. In other words, you can have an excellent computer that can run the latest Battlefield or Call of Duty game on high or ultra settings and still have issues with lag when it comes to MapleStory.
It's generally what happens anyway when you have so much content in the game, a lot of it being junk data and bloat that even the modern computers of today would have issues trying to process due to the large excess of it all.
Nobody does a lot of the PQs that are offered in game. Nobody does a lot of the quests that NPCs have to offer. Not all of the items that drop in-game are necessarily useful in any way. There's a ton of coding involved to create anti-hacking and anti-cheating systems for MapleStory that don't work very well. These are examples of data and content that aren't really needed and only add to the lag.
The issue becomes even more compounded when you factor in how much it would cost to redesign the game engine and to reprogram a lot of things to make the game more stable, smooth and actually optimized: a ridiculous amount. So it's a lot better to create a new game (this is why MapleStory 2 is a thing).
My advice: try not to go near too many crowded areas. Maybe play during a time when there aren't as many people online (skip 2x events if it's that bad for you). Maybe don't pick up as many things. Otherwise, you will have to deal with it as it is. Especially given the game's age and declining popularity, it's something to be expected at this point.
I play from EU and I'm good :< idk, sounds like net lag maybe? make sure it's stable

Also @phaibooty yes i think it might be something with my computer or with my maplestory files. My nets fine because my sister can play GMS just fine
Maplestory lags for me too. I live in the US and nothing but Maplestory lags for me. I crashed two times just now.
@solzoriana: Do you know if its PC lag or Net lag? Sounds like PC lag to me.
I don't know if you have the same issue, but I'm freezing every 5-6 seconds, I cant even play. lol.... Might be a server thing. I can play at night?.. makes no sense lol.
@solzoriana: It might be because you're overseas. If your friend has the same results as yours but he doesn't lag, it could be because of the location. Your download speed and upload speed are also pretty low.
@ereckgoose: My ping is 8 ms, my download speed is 20 mbps and my upload speed is 5 mbps
My friend has similar results but he lives in the U.S and he plays without lag
It depends on your internet speed of Up and Down -> www.speedtest.net
It could also be that oversea thing. Not only that when a server is populated or people trying to ddos, the servers become laggy. It is noticeable around 2x times.
