North Carolina school tells boy to ditch Bookbag

Article

Basically, a nine year old boy was told to abandon his "My Little Pony" book-bag because it made him a target for bullying. The controversy over this is whether or not the school did the right thing. The mom claims the school punished the boy and not the bullies.
I really don't know how to feel about this.

If you read my post you would understand that I said they should not have.

It's such a shame this is happening to kids in North Carolina elementary schools.
I live in North Carolina and graduated high school last year, Bronies weren't frowned upon at all.

Sounds pretty typical for a NC school to say that to a student.
The mom is upset because she believes that it isn't the boy's fault for wearing the book-bag, but its the bullies fault for bullying. So then why should the son have to abandon his favorite book-bag? Its punishing the boy when he did nothing wrong.
It's not a punishment. They're teaching him how to not get his ass kicked. They want to spare him from getting bullied and abused by his peers and they want to spare themselves from wasting a lot of time to sort out all the trouble it will cause.

The mom should organize a group of kids to fight the bullies, literally.
The parents should understand that just because teachers tell kids not to be bullies, it doesn't necessarily all stop them from doing so. If the bag is what triggers the bullying, then I think the school was right in telling the kid not to bring it. However, I think should have been more of a suggestion than a banning. Should've just told the kid that he was going to get bullied if he brought it but if it was that important to him, then he could bring it anyways. The kid should just understand that thats what was going to happen.
Just get rid of the bag and the bullying will stop. I'm sorry the mother wants him to bring the bag to get bullied!

The school should of confronted the bullies and their parents for raising them to perform hate crimes
Yeah... they should encourage him wear that backpack. So he can get bullied. And when it becomes too difficult to stop the bullying because too many kids are picking on him, the stupid soccer mom can complain again after the school district already told her it would happen. All because some kid really wanted to bring a stupid pony thing to school.
