The psychology behind dpm charts

This is gonna be my take on what a dpm chart represents to the comunity, and how it directly impacts the game.

So many of you might not know this but in kms, people take the game waaay more serious than in gms. Dpm charts originate from kms and it's turned into a religion to those who think about funding a character for optimal bossing. Obviously these charts take into accaunt that every boss is gonna be binded 24/7, which is clearly not the case, therefore they are very innacuarate.

Like I mentioned before, dpm charts have turned into a religion. Society works in a way that if evidence that Jesus didnt exist was found, people would still stick to their religion, its human nature. It has gotten to the point where the people in charge to nerf/buff characters in kms do it BASED ON THE DPM CHARTS. In other words, dpm charts are important even if for the wrong reason.

Diggin some info in whats considered the Basil equivalent to koreans (x10 more populated) Insoya.com, after the lastest dpm chart, NL where placed under paladins. 5 days later nexon decided to revert half of the NL skill nerfs.

In addition to that, the stock market for the different worlds in kms depends highly on the spot of some classes in the dpm chart. The lastest chart shows that DB, Phantom and NL are like worst class in general atm, only better than bishop. People begun quitting luk% gear and so thiefs where considered a weak class (in korean) for the time being, and only based on the excell sheet calculations that configured the dpm chart.

Final veredict: Because of the popularity and impact of the dpm chart itself it is shown that all the buff and nerfs depends on how people react whenever a new dpm chart is created. People see x class in a low spot after a nerf, people bash nexon that x class is trash, nexon buffs it a little or revert some changes. To me and many more the dpm chart is anything but close to reality, that is not the case to the majority however.

I think you should say something more concrete rather than subjective when you talk about the reasons why Koreans would make these charts instead of us. I don't believe they necessarily take the game more seriously, but there are reason why they are more likely to have charts specifically for Maplestory and win more at certain esports (I don't follow them all). The game scene is more developed in Asian countries. There is less stigma there. They got Maplestory first. Way less people here play, so there is less funding for this branch. It competes with other games that have higher populations, more content, and no need for damage charts. Also, the korean parent company makes the content, so they will listen to the charts on their boards rather than here. That's what game companies do. They look at the reactions of their players, and they don't care much for our region; NA Maplestory players are seconhand player citizens. And the players here who make charts quit to go do something more important or fun. Other reasons.

Also, as long as the conditions can be reproduced and there are no calculation errors, in-game bugs, or biases from the creator, the chart is accurate under those conditions, and the output can accurately predict what certain classes can do in comparison with other classes, with major differences in accuracy coming from differences in mobility and utility. Like when you have compared the classes with the highest dps, the ones with the highest would dominate the most time-wise at bosses, whereas you would have classes like db that would do well compared to classes with the same damage but less mobility.

I don't know how the charts are now, but I remember there being not too many major differences in damage output besides the very top and very bottom, with most classes being close to average.

If you're an I/L throw out all DPM chart knowledge on I/Ls the last dude who made the charts was incredibly biased to I/Ls and now KMSers had proof of that lie. (So he basically made I/Ls low on the chart, so there would never be popular opinion on I/Ls being OP, causing the players to ask Nexon to nerf them. KMSers found out when a well respected, fully funded NL took more time to kill a boss (I think it was Lucid) than the creator's I/L who was missing a few major upgrades to have identical upgraded equipment to the NL and on TOP of that the DPM chart said NL > I/L. NL dude asked why, I/L said "lol nub" and everyone took a closer look and they're all pissed.) Now nobody really knows what the true DPM tier list is as they assumed the guy also messed with other classes for the same reason.

The current developing DPM chart is still being updated, and multiple people are working on it this time, and is open for discussion in their forum for revision (though still doesn't help much because just a few are actually getting the numbers)

Such lies are quite scary, because they can influence the players opinion on each class, and Nexon takes the player's opinion of classes into account.
That's why that Battle- er I mean 'Rock' Mage never came into KMS, and why Thieves/Pirates had that one revamp by popular demand after the other 3 branches had their revamp.
