I just used the gem I got from one and got a crow staff I'm gonna be rich!

They're not really that worth it.

At high levels you still get max fullness points from lvl 100/110 equips and weapons which drop so frequently. Another trick is to use the Heart item so you can easily get to 100 closeness.

Most of the items that you can get from the gems aren't particularly useful but there is the off chance that you can get useful things like Mineral bags and Swift tools (which increases drop rate) and meso bags. Also, it's just another way to get random rewards which are always fun.

You have to give them items like equips or etc, so it can slightly clear your inventory. But to get a high rank one you need items from mining / herb.
