Parties are overrated
Went to a party today, and it was dreadfully boring. There was admittedly decent food, music, dancing, and people I knew; but the whole experience was just a huge drag. There were no events, games, no alcohol or drugs (These are rather straight-arrow people), or anything of that sort. I mostly just sat around the table making conversation with some friends, talking over the loud music.
The most fun part was when we decided to ditch and wander aimlessly in the woods. There was a dead possum. We poked it with a stick and went back.
At least now I know why people drink a ton at parties. All that loud music and dancing must seem a lot more fun when drunk.
Small get-together with close friends are heaps more fun and entertaining than this; since you really don't have to worry about embarrassing yourself or trying to look cool.

That's why we poked it. It smelled bad and there were flies, so I'm pretty sure it was dead or got a skunk to play along.

Only parties that are worth it if is it has booze. Otherwise it's pretty boring. What you could do is pre-game with close friends then go to that party. It would probably be a bit more fun or just sneak in some alcohol there.
I'm the type of person who enjoys intentional/deep and meaningful activities and most parties just don't allow me to do that sort of stuff so I try and avoid them...but it's the year of 21sts
