Every time I use social media I get drunk and start talking crap. Or just anyways I'd start talking crap. No one I know from high school or college does anything interesting. And I don't want to hear about it daily.
I don't rly use social media much either. Email is reliable enough (hotmail and gmail). Same with texting and phone calls. If SMS, then I would use google hangouts. I hate Wechat with a passion. FB is stupid and I don't have a Twitter account. I havent logged in Instagram since last year. They all feel like a waste of time. But I'm still tempted to use them at times.
Just be glad you're financially secure enough on Maslow's hierarchy of needs to feel that way. If you're talking about Facebook, it's a waste to time to know what's going on in other people's lives.
