Buy Karma Koin at a store if that's available in your area. Otherwise the steam thing sounds like your only other option (although I've never tried it personally). Don't attempt to gift yourself NX from another account because you can't gift NX credit.

On a more serious note keep getting to max limit and eventually they'll allow you to purchase more. Or charge through steam like a guy said above.
