If you can get a 600 ~ 800 budget after taxes and shipping (if any), you can get a whole different tier computer than with a 500 budget.
i5 3750, GT 660Ti, and 8GB of ram.

I need a desktop. The budget is 400-500 dollars. Don't care about brand ( anything except gateway). And just need to know what Ghz i can get with my budget.

1. What brand are you looking to buy/Do you care about the brand at all/Are you building it yourself
2. What's your budget
3. Are you looking to JUST run maple/skype, or do you want it to do other things as well?
4. Laptop or Desktop
There are definitely a lot more things to consider than just the processor... but for simply Maple and Skype, all you would need is about 4 GB of RAM and a i3 processor or better. You could also get an AMD processor since that would be cheaper, but more likely to overheat.
