Is it possible to have the same dream multiple times?

Just wondering whether or not this morning I awoke several times to the same dream or whether it was a continuous dream involving waking up.

This is my pet theory. People that actually know what I'm talking about - and better than me - feel free to destroy it.

Repetition in dreams is caused by the chemical or electrical signals of a synapse to be retained in the brain. During the REM cycle of sleep, the sleeper tends to exert more brain energy maintaining the body - and thus, would cause more reactions within the axons of the brain.

When you wake up from REM sleep - that is to say, from dreaming - you aren't full awake yet, as your axons are still rapidly sending synapses. When you go back to sleep, you will immediately reenter REM sleep - which would theoretically place you in the same place as you were before your waking.

However, if you have the same dream for over a longer period of time, it's usually from trauma or something that you've retained in your memory for quite some time (the major example being horror movies).

Omg yes

I remember I few years ago I had this dream, and my whole town moved to this mountain, and there was this "Challenge"

The challenge was that the two teenage girls from the town mined coal for 24 hours. The one who mined the most coal lived, and the one who lost had to get pushed down a cliff.

My sister lost and I had to push her off a cliff it was so sad that I cried and it happened again like 6 months ago. It was so sad
There can be repentance in dreams so yea. I had a few dreams that occurred in extremely similar ways but had some differences.

One question is why people wake up when they are just about to be killed in a dream?
Because if you die in a dream, you die in real life.
Just like if you "hit the ground" in a dream.

No I'm kidding, thats a dumb theory. My friends boyfriend says he hits the ground every time. ;D

Yes, it is completely possible. And like Brandon0wns said, it's also possible to have a continuation of dreams over consecutive nights, or even nonconsecutive nights.
Happens to me all the time.
