Considering Maining a Paladin

Paladin Forum Talk about Page, White Knight and Paladin

I have a few questions:

  1. What would my range be with around 100% str?

  1. Would 2h Sword or 2h Mace be better?

  1. Whats your swag level?

1.idk
2. really doesnt matter in the end both faf 2h mace and sword have same speed, but usually 2h swords are 1 speed faster, but also swords are a lot more expensive and harder to find
3. no just no

2. Swords are objectively better since they give 10% max crit damage as opposed to 5% def ignore with High Paladin.

There's no way someone can estimate your range if you just give % strength.

probably 400 - 500k fully buffed if you had decent att% and decent weapon attack aswell

Swords are slightly better, but maces are infinitely cheaper.

If fight with very high %def boss? Which one would be better?
*If %def ignore is better, which bosses were that?[/quote]

Pallies already ignore 100% def, but if they didn't, swords would still be better. Its 5% pdr, not 5% boss. It won't make THAT much of a difference

@stevenman76, could you elaborate on Paladins ignoring 100% defense?

From what I have learned, we have been using the multiplicative PDR system. The only way to ignore 100% defense is to have one source of PDR that is 100%. As you get more and more sources of non-100% PDR sources, you approach the ignoring 100% defense threshold but you never actually get there. Theoretically, you would need an infinite amount of sources. Please refer to this.

Perhaps, you are confusing PDR with the elemental void, where damage is not cut in half on some bosses such as Empress, Magnus, Hilla, Gollux, and Pink Bean bodies. Paladins do ignore lots of defense however, because of threaten and many other skills.

As mentioned by @Mask, if you only give percent strength, it is impossible to estimate someone's range. Also, +str is very influential in your attack range because it works multiplicatively with %str.

@traderweak, the sword option for High Paladin is basically always better. Since we have the multiplicative PDR, a 5% source barely does anything. However, maxCrit is very helpful because Paladins hit a lot of critical.
When speaking of criticals, there are three things you must keep in mind; they are minCrit, maxCrit, and chanceCrit. They are what they seem to be.
*minCrit is the minimum boost from a critical hit that you will get.
*maxCrit is the maximum boost from a critical that you will get.
*chanceCrit, or just %Crit, is the chance that a critical hit will occur.
Before the new UI was implemented, we had to calculate our own minCrit and maxCrit. The base minCrit is +20% and the base maxCrit is +50%. This means that the average critical, which I will denote as avgCrit is +35%. An increase to the maxCrit by 10% will increase the avgCrit by 5%. Considering Paladins hit so many criticals, this little difference is superior to the 5% PDR.

To show how ineffective a source of 5% PDR is, I will give an example. The boss with the highest defense in the game right now is Chaos Vellum, with a defense rate of -300%.
Assume a Paladin ignores 90% defense without High Paladin. This means that Chaos Vellum will be reducing the Paladin's damage by 30%. The Paladin will be doing 70% of their damage.
Assume the Paladin ignores 90% and the 5% from High Paladin kicks in. This means that Chaos Vellum will be reducing the Paladin's damage by 28.5%. The Paladin will be doing 71.5% of their damage.

[(new) - (old)] / (old)
[71.5 - 70] / 70
~0.02143
~2.143% increase in damage

Paladin's rely more on attack to increase their range, compared to STR%. So if you want a high range get tons of attack then work on STR%.

No, they don't. Paladins ignore all Physical Resistance (where bosses cut your damage in half regardless of PDR, and is also factored after your PDR). The only way to get 100% PDR (Ignore Defense) now is from skills such as Asura and Typhoon Crush. Otherwise, you would only have 99.99% PDR because it's calculated multiplicatively as of post-Unleashed.

10% Maximum Critical Damage is also vastly superior to 5% PDR. There's no scenario whatsoever where 5% PDR would yield a greater boost than 10% Maximum Critical Damage.
