An Aspiring Writer's Problem Hey Basil, Fox here! I'm sure some of you have seen me around Basil, posting the stories that I write (Exalted and Fighting The Revamp being the last 2). I'm currently working on something original, unique if you will. Even though it's kind of for fun, I want to know where a place is that I could post it. Each chapter (up to 6) is about 9 or 10 pages, single spaced (including quotes). My story is fantasy based, and it could have up to 28 chapters... I suppose I'm looking for a site where I could post it, and get real critiques and comments on it. Fictionpress.net isn't working for me as well as I thought it would. So yeah, a site where I could post my story/book/novel, or Beta Readers (People who would be intere

It Pains Me. About Her v-Poem below-v (So everyone knows what is coming) It pains me. It pains me to think, or to even talk about what could have been caused by me. A life ruined because I was too scared to say a few words, whether they’d be of affection, words of compliments, or words of insignificance. No longer can I see the face of this slut, and smile with a drink for her in one hand, and a drink for myself in the other. No longer can I give her a peck on the cheek without needing to shower when I get home. No longer can I look into the face of the girl with a bright future, and know that when she left school, she would do her homework, and carefully, and accidentally construct the bright future that could only belong to her.

What do YOU look for in a book? Hey basil, I'm an avid writer, mostly of poetry, and fantasy-ish stories/novels. About a week ago, I decided I really wanted to work hard on an idea for a story I had, but after writing the first few chapters, what do people look at when they pick up a book? What is it that makes a person read chapter 1, and come back for more? So basil, I'm asking you. Question 1: Lets say you pick up a book and turn to the back to read it's summary. What would need to be in the summary for you to open the book and read it? Question 2: What qualities in a book (chapter 1) make you eager to read chapter 2, and so on, and so forth. Gimme your thoughts and ideas =)

L>Help. Writers block. So, I have a dilemma. I have lots of free time on my hands after work and school; maple/video games get boring, so I've been typing to keep myself busy. I've typed several stories/poems and such, but I've stopped with 3 of them. Exalted -Maplestory Fighting The Revamp -Maplestory The Black Moon -Original I get very bored of typing each story, so eventually I stop typing one and start something new. From the feedback/advice I've been given I've decided to stick with one of these 3 and I need help deciding which to continue, which is what I need basil's help for. From the descriptions/(maybe if you decide to read the 1st chapter as well) I need opinions on which to continue. Exalted:;chapter=1 Is from the poin

A place to post stories? Hey Basil, I'm in the need of a bit of help. I'm an avid writer and somewhat avid reader. For the most part, I like to write poetry and stories of the Fantasy genre. It's just a hobby, but I've decided I wanted to finish one of my stories for once, and I want to post it somewhere that gets a lot of traffic from people that would read it, give comments and critiques. It's unfortunate, but Fictionpress isn't helping much and I'm out of ideas. Does anyone know (a place that gets a decent amount of traffic) where I can post my stories/poems and hopefully get them reviewed/commented on/critiqued? Thanks =)

Sex in Literature Heya Basil! Some of you know me as Fox, other people know me as "that guy who just made the thread I'm currently reading", and maybe a few of you know me as the Scrap Man...cuz you know...I run Scraps <Wonders if anyone gets it. Anyway. I'm an avid writer, and after sharing something I've been working on with some friends, they told me I should add in sex scenes, since the book merely implies sex happening. The way I see it, writing mildly...explicit sex scenes would give a chance to go into each characters mind, and provide a little bit more character information through thoughts, actions, and backstory...but I'm not sure if it's really a good idea, as it would raise the rating of the book...which would proba

Any good writers out there? Hey Basil~ DF here, and I have another issue, this one not being about MS =P For those of you who don't know (Most of basil, lawl) I'm an avid writer, my most recent project(?) being a fantasy book/novel/story which looks like it'll have about 26 or 27 chapters. Right now, I'm on chapter 9 and I have a slight issue... How do I know when there's too much dialogue, and how do I know what I should delete if there is too much. Chapter 9 just seems dialogue-logged, and most-all of it seems necessary to the storyline and plot progression. Thanks if you can help =) Also, when is the latest I should add in a main/semi-main character? I have 2 more to add, they're both introduced in chapter 11 or 12, but one of the two be

Drake's Death. A sad story scene. Hey Basil! After watching Witchblade, the sad music got to me. Eventually, I settled on writing a death scene for the main character. My goal? To have readers feel the same sadness that the characters are feeling. The scene is relatively short and not as detailed as it should be, it's about 1.5 pages long. Enjoy~ Notes: The story itself is about a human boy in a world of dragons/werewolves/kitsune. It IS kinda romantic, with these facts, it's safe to conclude that it is "furry" if you want to call it such. It's not inappropriate or rated R in any way...not this part at least. I was listening to this while I wrote, you should listen to it too =P v~~~v [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSfZA480FJw
