Again, the fact that some random internet user was able to change your beliefs tells me that you can be manipulated easily. I bet if you met religious version of that kid, he/she will be able to change you.

but hey, don't feel ashamed we all can be manipulated by loved ones.[/quote]

Sigh... I wasn't "manipulated". It was a long process of arguing with atheists, and coming to terms with the fact I was wrong my whole life.
Again, no religious person can convince me there's some reason to believe, because there is none other than faith, which I already find silly in and of itself.

You sound like one of those religious extremists giving speeches about how blind and stupid they were before they found Jesus. please stop.

OT: I'm Pagan and serious about it. ;x

I don't know dude I think engaging in debate with young bright minds (Like Snovvy) and over-analyzing pretty much every contemporary argument for and against religion and weighing the arguments from each side over dozens of pages of debate is a very valid way that one can change their beliefs. How else would they?... You think it's better to be brainwashed by parents? Or to watch a 1 hour Carl Sagan or religious documentary? Maybe that's what happened with you, but people's beliefs are malleable, we weigh the evidence and the arguments then form our own decisions. You seem to be over-critical of the internet when it's in fact the best place with the most information for one to even decide these things.

@NotZach: Gee. There's nothing wrong with describing the process in which I became atheist. He DID question me, after all. I'm only going into detail because he's implying I was easily convinced. Maybe you should look at the context before saying such things.

@yesno: Whatever you say. Your argument doesn't really have any substance to it, so I'm going to ignore it. It's very insulting to say I haven't considered my beliefs. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if I did the same. I have in fact given much thought to my religious beliefs. Probably more than you. Show some respect for others, please.

So what? Moderates say that stuff all the time. Oh, there's a hole in my life that can only be filled by Jesus.

I don't see how your post makes much sense.

In the end it comes down to this:
Do you have evidence to justify your beliefs? Is this evidence demonstrable and falsifiable?
Does your reasoning fall into one of the classical fallacies noted in Wikipedia and known for millennia?
How do your arguments differ from that of every other theist from other religions or denominations that have ever existed or will exist?

Done.

OH RIGHT, answering the topic's question.
Hell yes, I take religion seriously. And it's not just about being right or debating being a good way of hashing out issues leading to a better society, or even I like to find out what is true or not.

If I die and there is a wrathful god that will send me to eternal concious hellfire for not believing in him, I better switch ASAP or my infinite future is looking infinitely bleak. No sane human being can NOT care about this, it's just that people are already convinced of their answer to the point this isn't an issue.

But I also care for the other reasons provided. So I wrote down my thoughts and over time those thoughts became a post, then a blog post, then more blog posts, then a document, then a book.

I find the term 'serious Christian' slightly amusing because it means there are enough 'not serious Christians' so that a serious Christian has to specify that they are serious.

Oh, I believe there is a god watching what we do and has rules for us and probably has punishment vs reward depending on what we do. Do you care? Nah, I just sorta believe. Like there isn't an incentive to care and figure it out, right?

Do you believe you are on Earth? Nah, I just kindda believe, I'm not really serious about it.
Like, what?
