Maplestory isnt fun anymore

It's just me or Maple just lost all the fun?
I started playing around 2006 because i was in depression because of somethings in my life.
It was so cool, playing with other people, calling friends to play with you, doing zruns every saturday.
But then came the Potential.I don't think people could actually hit 199k without using the pyramid buff before pot,and when it came it sucked.
Zrun normally would take 20 min or so,now it would take 8 minutes due to max dmg hits.Luckily i was able to sell a lot of zhelms and some books before they lost the value,so i managed to get 1,5b before Big Bang.
BB came and everything changed.Price go up,price go down.Managed to get some awesome equips for 1/5 of today's price(mostly by buying raw scrolls and clean equips).
I never really went to PB because i though i would be 1hko'd(i was a BM at the time). So i made a DrK.In pure Big Bang unfairness,i got to lv 120 almost 10 times faster than the BM.Ridiculous.
I fell in love with the DrK class, the skills, the damage,it was just pure awesome(WAS,poor DrKs hit nothing today).I began selling the BM equips and bought DrK equips.
I still went to Zruns with my guild every saturday, but sadly it wasn't making any money because the books were useless with the new classes. So they stopped with the runs.
It took me months to hit 200,but i finally did it.I was at the peak of the DrK class.Awesome.
I started soloing Zak,which wasn't very profitabble.
So i started soloing Scarlion. At the time,Mechs were the bomb,so Dex equips sold more.I was amazed at how it was possible to kill ALONE a boss that 2 years ago would anihillate me.
Soon,i saw that alot of my equips were outdated.PACs,SCGs,all that wasn't really helpful anymore.
I sold them.Equips that friends gave me,i sold them.I bought some %Str equips, and was amazed at how useful they were.
At the time,i worked as a pizza deliverer(Which sucks btw,STUDY,YOU'LL THANK ME LATER) and received R$580/Month(something like $290) and didn't have to pay bills or anything, the money was all mine.
I wasted half my month payment in Maplestory, bought 150 NX(more or less) and was ready to burn it all.
Bought a bunch of Miracle Cubes and started potting.
Took me 40+ cubes to get a godly Dragon Faltizan.I realized something,i turned into a "cheater".What would normally take me months to buy,i got in 1 day simply by paying,it was unfair with the other people, the ones who didn't pay.
I realized the game was ridiculously easier if you give it money.
I started soloing HT and selling the loot,at the beggining of 2012 i was soloing Von Leon without any problems.
I realized DrK was a outdated class. But i didn't want to spend more money on another equips.
Then i created a DS.I already had %Str equips(i never used Untradeable stuff),so all i had to do was buy a Mace.
My friend had a lot of White Scrolls,i never realized how he had so many of them.Later someone told me he got it in the 2011 christmas event by using Vaccum hack.He sold me some of them by 1/3 of the price, which was nice.I bought a clean Battle Hammer for 1m(lv 100 1h mace) and started scrolling, enhacing and cubing(i paid $30 in NX).Luckily,it took me nearly half of the Cubes to get good potential lines.I was ready.
Took me one week to get to lv 200,which was somehow enfuriating. But anyway.I started bossing by Von Leon, had no time to waste.
Piece of cake.
I was ontop of the world, everything was accessible.
PBRunned with some friends,no biggie.
CZak,no problemo.

Then i tried the Empress with some friends.Meh.
I was hitting max dmg already. But it wasn't fair.
Everything that was happening was because of money.
I didn't do it on my own,i needed help. The help of the greed.

Today,i gain R$1.800,00/month and i waste $100/month on MS.
I have every class from the end of 2011 till today in lvl 200 fully funded. If i don't hit max dmg,i'm very close.

The message i want to send you is,DO NOT waste money on Maplestory if you're going to fund yourself.Things will happen way too fast and sometimes you'll get much more than you asked and you won't know what to do with it.
Take your time, enjoy the game. The game was meant to be played, not to be perfected.
If you've read my entire story,here is a potato:http://www.freeimageslive.com/galleries/food/fruitveg/pics/potato0730.jpg

Peace.

At the end of the day you could sell all your equips and make RL $ so its not all that bad butt you spent almost your whole life into this game which is kinda sad
TS is right. Don't listen to these haters.
90% of the maple community is full of trolls, just look at basilmarket where everyone is a hater. The mods are terrible too.
Basilmarket does not make up 90% of the community, and besides that, the average Basiler is trash to begin with.
It's unfair to judge the actual game's community based on Basilmarket.

Sorry but I can't bring myself to believe some of the things you say in your thread. Maybe because it's how you present yourself as a noob who knows.
Can people stop with the wall of text of nostalgia crap already. Seriously, you don't like MS anymore that's fine but to start saying crap about how "old MS is better" and walls of text about how the MS right now "sucks". Just creates unnecessary spam. Quit MS and if you already did then don't post. That simple. Also learn to understand that if you are playing an mmorpg it will evolve as that is why it is called mmorpg. They are a never ending story with updates until the game devs decide to shut it down. If you don't like the change of updates then mmorpgs shouldn't be what you are playing. Stick with console rpgs instead as they have only a few storylines that never change. No updates at all but maybe sequels to them. Example you should be playing Final Fantasy games on ps3 etc. Not Mmorpg if you hate the whole new updates thing.

Edit: Read your last part of your post. DO NOT tell others what to do with their money. Everyone has a right to use their money however they want to. Seriously get a grip and deal with the fact that some others have money they are able to "waste" on things. I can't splurge out the cash other people do in these games but I don't go QQing on all forums either. Some people are more lucky than others in games and in real life. DEAL WITH IT!
He said it is HIS word of advice. He wasn't telling you that you cant. People can stop about the nostalgia "crap", but they wont. People
(including you) have opinions. They can freely express those opinions all they want. Just because you don't like these threads, doesn't
mean others hate it too. I agree that old maple WAS more fun, however I have never made a thread on it. It is only
personal opinion. Like myself, I am surethose still playing have accepted the change. Some may still be annoyed by it though, for 1
reason or another. I dont want to go to a childish level but I read what you said in the beginning of your QQ Flame rage response.
DO NOT tell others to quit just because they miss what once was. I like how you tell him not to tell people what to do, yet you turn
around and do it yourself?

This was fun

Maple does seem a lot boring than it use to. But then again, I've only been merching for the past few months.

@godofturtles It's implied in these types of topics that the reader is intelligent enough to arrive at their own conclusion. As long as the TC isn't holding a gun at anyone's head, no one is being forced into seeing things his way.

I think its okay to spend money on this game, but moderate yourselves people; $100 or more a month is way too much.

But I totally agree with you with this game is meant to be played and not perfected, perfecting it means you're done with the game, and its not getting to the end of the game that is fun, its the journey getting there.

It is also a QQ post about how the TS doesn't want others to spend money on games like this. It's a pointless wall of text that just shows crying. Nothing important here. I dislike all nostalgia threads but if those threads actually have some decent points and doesn't sound like a big whine post. It won't be as much of a problem.
The new maple is awesome,in fact, the old maple was somehow boring, all the classes were just slow and you just had to hold one button to level up and kill bosses.
Not much has changed, but the game is more fluent.
And i'm not whining,i was sharing my experience as a mapler.
And no,i didn't give you orders of where to waste your money,I just said that i broke the game by wasting money on tons of cubes when i was still at a "noob" point.
I never prohibited you from wasting your money on whatever you like.

Try it, its free, and buying real life money doesn't give you such bs advantage ms does.
The game skills are easy to understand, hard to master, so I'm loving it.

Well to be fair, your progress was hardly 'quick'.

Sure, over the years you spent quite a ton on NX, but i'd hardly call that 'rushing to get funded and not enjoying the game'.

I do miss some things from old MS, but the training from it i don't. The definition of 'fun' varies from person to person. As being a not very funded player, I still enjoy the challenge of training or bossing quite fun or playing underestimated classes for the same reason.
However, I will say the community is mainly what kills it for me: People whining about not having HS in a party (just be grateful you HAVE a party), coming in to ks on a map (you can see i'm here trying to train and i've asked you nicely 6 times to go away), hackers is just pure laziness, and acting like you're a noob because you don't have a 3 lined % 180+ attack weapon the list can really go on.

Well then, was a good read and I have had similar experiences. I am at the top of the world in my realm but it did not take funding and being op to do so. I also believe pay-to-win is not the way to go in this game but even going through this path, you can share those experiences with friends to keep it interesting. The game does not become boring because of greed, only when you become bored with it. Most of the game relies on making funding to do things now but that does not mean it can take the fun out of it. Events are still interesting, newer classes coming out JUST means more variety and options to work with. Getting the most powerful stuff means making some sacrifice with money, but every kind of entertainment requires that when it comes to gaming.

Everytime I see people complaining that money is "wasted" on this game, I laugh about it. Seriously, people waste more money per month on new video games, pc game expansions, and even other hobbies usually unmentioned in the gaming realm. The money is not a waste if it was intended to fulfill a certain purpose to help our status in game (every one of us has a different status of events and scenarios). Sometimes we take the option to gamble to improve our status, and it would then backfire. That is no one's fault but our own, and we should take responsibility for it (when scrolling stuff, cubing, enhancing, etc. We decided to take the risk, no one else).

tldr;

I like this thread, it shows a maple life lesson of not to get too absorbed into the game if it means having it come first over other life priorities. For those who read it, they will benefit from it and should reflect.

You took esstentially the "easier route" which is the pay for godly everything and not have a challenge route, to some, doing that does take the fun and challenge out of the game, but that was YOUR choice. Like a poster said before me, the term fun is subjective, what is fun for some may not be fun for others, being godly and doing that stuff may not be fun for you, but may be fun for someone else. I personally have never spent money on NX, why? Because I love starting with nothing and working my way up, it is my personally way of having fun and ive been playing Maple since 2006 and have never got bored once, I just do not have as much time to play as I did back when I was in middle school (College Sophomore now), but overall I have fun in my own way.

I totally agree with you. I also recently came back to maple and I noticed that it's totally boring, only addicting. The use to play maple quite a lot until it when pay2win mode. It is also pretty sad how solo play is now much more optimal than group play.

@OP: Most Free2play games will end up costing more if you want to have an enjoyable experience compared to games that you only have to pay the tag price on.
