The independent clause following "but" is expressed separately from the preceding independent clause, the latter of which the modifier adds detail. Don't let simple mistakes like this change the meaning of your sentences.
That's what I said. GTX 680s in SLI outperform the 690 by ~5%, but considering the thermal output and energy consumption the latter is the better value.
Then you had a comma misuse...
"For about a 5% performance increase, the GTX 690 would be the better value..."
...because the subject "the GTX 690" is being modified by the phrase "5% performance increase."
Grammar rules.
Also it uses alot more power and generates almost the double amount of heat!
This is how to score an easy F on a thermodynamics problem.
44 degrees CELCIUS under load ... Many other reviews say that it hits around 80 degree's on a real 100% load.
Temperature in this application is not representative of total heat transfer.
For about a 5% performance increase, the GTX 690 would be the better value
Other way around: dual SLI GTX 680s are ~5% better than one GTX 690 while having the same retail price.
I think it was in this video but here it says that there are problems with quantum computers, maybe that will be solved in the future? But for now, they're saying there's some pretty big issues with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm6ScvNygUU
The best computer of all time in the foreseeable future would probably be a quantum supercomputer. I hope your dad has millions to spare...
There are some more expensive things out there.
Corsair has some nice 8GB Dominator GT modules that go for $500.
I think the Little Devil PC-V10 is a good case.
If you can get everything working, an OCZ Revodrive is super fast.
NEC has good 2500x1600 monitors for about $1000 a piece if you can find it cheap.
@angramainyu:
The cohort is part of a few projects, most geared towards "personalised medicine" approach to cancer. Identifying biomarkers relevant to prognosis/outcome/recurrence in an attempt to tailor course of action on an individual basis.

@dimo What are you researching that requires a supercomputer?
Sequence alignment and somatic mutation detection for hundreds of whole genome next gen sequencing runs (colorectal cancer tumour samples)
it shall cost $8.9kthe best I can find.
Replace those video cards with 690's.

EDIT:or just go with the one above me.anything else, your highness?
Well, OP, you can go ahead and get all the babby-level components the previous posters have mentioned and build yourself a decent machine, or you can decide to do something like a real man for once and go with a quantum computer.
While all your friends are playing Skyrim and Monkey Island or whatever it is kids play these days, you'll be sitting with a computer that's able to process amazing things like factorization at a power that would require a classical computer the size of the universe to handle.
It won't run Crysis on max settings though.
I use a IBM Blue Gene/P system at work, they are about $1million per rack.

Was this an intentional or unintentional reference to Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy?
Like.. $3,000.
That will be pretty expensive. My computer runs well enough for me and i got it for 1000 dollars
thats like 5000 bucks o.o
