Make an I/L, they are a very good "beginner" mage what with having a simpler playstyle

Well I don't feel like typing up a storm so this is copy and pasted from my previous replies in similar threads. They will be out of context so ignore that.
I think people aren't looking at how friggen amazing this is. It's insane. First, we get to hit through damage reflect and cancel magic attack (which is super defense).

Then, our toggle on-off skill also hits through damage reflect and cancel magic attack, but does continuous damage automatically, meaning it works even when you're stunned, sealed, seduced, etc.

Although F/P mages may not have the highest DPS, it's still possible for them to solo bosses significantly faster than many other classes due to their ability to hit through the damage blocking limitations.

I, for one, am extremely happy with this. Other classes get some kind of weapon or magic attack increase... which is useless for many f/p mages because we hit the damage cap with Mist Eruption so easily!

F/P are seriously getting OP now. We hit 7 times now, we've got continuous damage, we have massive as shatners DoT damage, we hit through DR/Cancel, we maintain damage through Seduce/seal/stun, and now, I just realized that Fire Aura activates your Arcane Aim, prolonging your maximum damage output if you're stunned/sealed/seduced/etc.

Alright, so right now, people seem to be confident that I/L mages outdamage F/P mages regardless of circumstance, as long as the funding is high and the damage cap is crippling the F/P damage.

There's a lot of factors to consider, however, in off paper DPS, and I personally believe that it's possible that F/P mages may be stronger than I/L mages at higher level bosses even if funding is high. I'll list the reasons:

1) Fire/Poison DPS continues to prosper even as they are stunned, sealed, power knock backed, seduced, etc. At high level bosses, this will really occupy a very large percentage of the boss fight, perhaps as much as 50%. During this time, I/L will barely have any damage, if any at all, while F/P will continue to deal decent damage. This is even more evident in bosses like Magnus where you are occupied with flying rocks of death. F/P DPS continues to prosper even when the character dies, which is inevitable against enemies like Magnus.

2) Fire/Poison receives an absolutely unimaginable hyper skill: Fire Aura. The whole 500% damage every 2 seconds part is great, but if I understand the skill correctly, it is even better than that. Fire/Poison mages might be able to continue their Arcane Aim even while stunned or whatever, because they are still hitting the enemy with physical damage, not DoT damage, with Fire Aura. If Fire Aura does indeed activate and continue Arcane Aim, it means that F/P mages would be able to remain at their peak for a much longer time than I/L mages, rather than having to re-accumulate all five stacks.

EDIT: I just confirmed that Fire Aura does indeed continue to activate Arcane Aim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQt85cuDQnI&feature=player_embedded

F/P for unfunded and strong
I/L for funded and cool
Pick your choice

They both have their pros and cons. My honest opinion would be to make an I/L Magician, because they have incredible reach and mobbing potential with chain lightning. They're not that bad when it comes to bossing, either.
